I'm ordering my friend's computer parts on monday and I'm just wondering how high people have gotten their 1GHz Tbirds? :) Overclockers.com database isn't very helpful as only a handful or two have replied about their overclocking ventures.

Thanks!

BTW, anyone know a place where I can get a blue (copper) core 1GHz Tbird. :)

I think all 1GHz T-Birds are blue cored. As for overclocking, I'll still awaiting adequate cooling before I make any attempts..

All 1ghz+ cpu's are from Dresden as far as I am aware which means it will have a copper core. You will get 1.1 ghz easily with decent cooling. 1.2 is possible but not as likely. 1.3 is possible with extreme (ie water) cooling.

Amd has said that most 1 ghz cpus are copper, not all of them, that only holds true for 1.1ghz and greater. Eitherway, you do have a fairly good chance of getting a blue core, if you don't want to chance it, try picking it out in person at a store or show.

After I posted this at 1:44 AM I thought to myself, "Wait, aren't most 1GHz+ copper? Oh well...(I had turned off the computer already)"

I am going to try to get an agilent articooler to cool his 1GHz, so my goal of 1.2GHz isn't totally out of the question. ;)

Anyone here with a 1GHz Tbird tried overclocking? Please post your results here. :)

IF overclocking your cpu shortens the life of it, then why do companies like Kryotech do it to there systems and why did ppl buy 300a celeys and push em to there limits of 450 and 500 for almost a year and a half? Rock Solid at that.

Shorten the life? Lets face it if you?re an over clocker you don?t care about the shorten life. Instead of lasting 8 to 10 years it?ll last 4 to 5. Hell in 2 years when the 3ghz Athlon III?s come out we?ll be buying them and OCing them to 3.5 or maybe 4 with water-cooling. Noipoo's right though, your not gonna see much difference, But what the hay go for it I would?

noxipoo, yes, instead of lasting 10-20 years it will last 8-15. He is getting a new computer in 3 years anyway, and probably a CPU upgrade before then, we're not worried. ;)

Hey, if I can get him 1.2GHz out of 1GHz, I will. He WILL notice that 200MHz extra when he is compiling Gimp or Linux or whatever other programs!
