Well more Windows deleted. This has not been a good week for me with Windows. The thumbnails have disappeared on one of my HP workstation. At first, some of the thumbnails were missing with just icons instead but over time now all thumbnails are gone. It is the same with Windows Explorer and Qdir which I use sometimes. I have tried all the fixes I found and nothing works. The system works fine but not having thumbnail view is a problem.

Presumably you checked to see that the right check boxes are set in "Folder/View."

Otherwise sounds like something is mess'n with your registry.

Im wondering if automatic Windows updates are causing your issue(s) as there seem to be reports of all kinds of different issues due to updates. (I would inspect the update history just to see if any updates occured just at the time that you observed the subject issue. If it looks like an update coincides with the time of emergence of your issue, a possibility is to try to uninstall the specific update.)
There's a thing called "Winaero Tweaker" that might be able to help taylor your system to what you want (I use it myself), but I dont know ....... you really shouldnt have to be mess.n with stuff like that particularly with a server system.

Hopefully someone else will chime in regarding what is going on in your situation.

PS: Oh ya,

First thing I always do is disable automatic updates so probably not the issue. At this point Microcrap is the malware. I tried everything and got no where. I got in the habit of imaging my builds so I just ended up restoring the image to a spare ssd and swapped out the corrupted ssd. Everthing seems back to normal. Fortunately, I didn't have much new installed on this system so didn't lose much. I just have to reinstall a couple things. Then I'll re image and I'll be good.

Sometimes when this happens, it is because the Windows thumbnail cache somehow got corrupted. This is a long-standing issue that Windows has had since at least XP.

In my experience, if clearing the thumbnail cache doesn't fix the problem (which, honestly, it frequently doesn't), the only way the problem can be fixed is by some sort of Windows reinstall -- either like you did via your backup restore, or slightly less likely by doing a Windows repair install by running Windows setup within Windows.
