Thumb + Car door

you should get that xrayed...

X-rayed? LOL.. Nah. It's just some nail damage. I didn't lose the nail, there was no external blood.. It looks much worse than it is. It actually looks worse now that the nail has started to grow out..

It took a month for my nail to start growing again. Once it finally grew out a little, it seemed like there was a hole in my nail, but there was still nail at the bottom. There was this strange, spongey looking layer of blood between the inner and outer layers of my nail, which you can still kinda see.

I find the big divot in my nail, with the new nail growing at regular height behind it, rather amusing actually. 😛 It will probably be weird when it gets to the end of my finger.

don't worry, your nail will fall off and a new one will grow in its place.

<=== closed door on finger... twice...

Yup and it will be softer than the others for about three years. I have lost several, one time I had my right index completely ripped off. Those bruises aren't nearly that bad. Did you pop it with a pin through the nail to get the blood out?

That happened to a Soldier while I was deployed in a HMMWV door.

Only difference is that a HMMWV door has a "tighter" fit than most car doors. He no longer has the end of his thumb. Luckily he didn't get too much in there (about half a nails worth).

Take a picture of it once a week until it heels and make like a webpage that shows it's healing progress. It will go viral!

I vote for an animated .gif

it is too late to see the whole process for this thumb, please duplicate on your other thumb and start the weekly pics immediately.

Friend of mine smashed his index finger in the door of a lincoln mark viii when he was drunk.

split the finger wide open, nail completely gone.
It's been a few weeks since the injury, and his finger still looks fvcked up pretty bad.
He had 5 regular stitches, which have since been removed, and then a bunch using some kinda disolvable string that has mostly gone.

The Mark viii is a giant coupe ... the door weighs like 100 pounds ....

Oh shit. I just reflexively shoved my thumbs into my armpits to protect them from your pic. I couldn't close the window with no hands, so I had to sit there squirming and looking at the ceiling for a few minutes.

Shit dude.

Something similar happened to my left big toe late 90's, completely broke of the nail & some blood. IIRC it took 6-8 months for the nail grow back. It felt weird looking at it growing week by week. The exposed skin felt tender to the touch so I had to be careful putting on my socks.

I did the exact same thing about a year ago. It took like 6 months for my thumbnail to look normal again. I didn't notice my thumb in the door until I tried to move my hand away and it was stuck; at that point I noticed that I could only see the base of my thumb.

i closed the car door on my thumb hwen i was 13. My thumb was in the car door. Didn't even feel it at first, i walked away and was yanked back by my thumb which was in the car door. And then I stared at my thumb in the car door. Got my dad to unlock the door and my thumb was pounding like crazy, as if there was a heart inside of it, I could feel every little bit of blood flowing through it.

Nail ended up completely falling off.
