Just got my new PC together and this processor seems louder than it should be. It kinda reminds me of an old single core under load, I do not know the name of the noise but I have heard people refer to it as the CPU is "thinking"

I do not know it is my case or something but this thing seems to be really working away on nothing, I am at about 3% with temps at about 26. I would be scared to hear this thing under load.

Does anyone else get this? been a while since I had an AMD though maybe that is just the way they are.
 
So its the motherboard then? I apologize for the ignorance, its been a while since I had a computer together.
 
Oh ok, do you think it may be an issue with the compatibility between the 1055t and motherboard? In CPUz the core is varies from 800mhz to 2800mhz, could this be bios setting that is causing all this noise? because of the throttling

this may be a dumb question... but you're talking about a noise that's something other than cpu heatsink fan noise? The stock Thuban cpu fan can get quite loud during load. Unless your system is very quiet and you have very good high frequency hearing, vrm/capacitor whine (which can come from the mobo or psu) should not be too obvious.
 
CPU "thinking" is usually referred to the hard drive reading/writing noises (grinding).

Your noises are coming from fans spinning, HD reads/writes, or something else. CPUs do not make any noise.

Still wondering if this is a serious thread.

The cpu throttling is normal, it's called Cool n Quiet and every AMD processor has done it for probably 5+ years now.
 
Sorry guys, this was little brothers computer, I was at work so I let him use my Anandtech account to try to find help.

The noise he heard was the HD reading and writing........

When he asked me on the phone I thought he was talking about noisy capacitors so I told him to ask on here.

Glad everyone got a laugh and thanks for the help
 
hahaha it may get loud, but hey, at least it has heatpipes...way better than the stock intel cooler!

Amen to this. I had a client's machine with an AM2 X2 6000+, and it loaded at up to 71C with an aluminum cooler. I put on the four-heatpipe copper-based cooler, and it loaded at up to 73C! It had a copper core, heatpipes, and more surface area. Yet it cooled worse. My evaluation was that it needed a better fan.
 
What hard drive is he using, and is that his first comp with Win7? I built my father a comp recently with the 640gb WD black and Win7, and the seek noises are very noticeable over the rest of the system. I haven't even used a computer with an SSD yet, and about half my case for buying them is based on their silence, since I am quite satisfied with the performance of my systems.

He is using a 7200.10 seagate 750gb, I stopped by today and it is actually pretty loud, it would def annoy me!
 
Louder than the current hitachi drives? I never really noticed my 7200.10, but I don't use it for much cept data storage now

I'm running two Hitachi drives right now that are silent compared to the Seagate drives they replaced.
