Ok, usually engagement parties are just parties to announce a couples engagement to friends and family.
I think it would be nice to have a casual BBQ in teh backyard. get some brats and chicken and beer and wine and just enjoy the company. Most of the time though, no gifts are necessary unless people want to get the couple something!
Its usually customary for teh host/hostess to make a quick toast as well.
and P.S. NO FREAKKIN STRIPPER!!!!

thanks ActPrincess, that's pretty much what we planned on doing, but we weren't sure if the engagement party was a family or friend or both thing.

I've never understood this. The two parties have already devoted themselves to eachother. Why ruin it with something like this!?When I propose, I'm certainly not going to fvck it up by having naked women at a bachelor's party. If I did, I may as well be fvcking the babysitter 10 years into the marriage too.

To you, possibly. What would his wife-to-be think of the idea? That's what matters, if he doesn't have any sense of loyalty, himself.

Are there any rules/etiquette I should know of?
He's the first of our bunch of friends to get married, so we're a tad inexperienced when it comes to the norm of things.
Can we just have it in the back yard of someone's house with food and drinks? Or is there more to it than that?
We're all 24 years old, so a pretty young crowd will be there.
And like I said, most engagement parties are thrown for the bride-to-be. If you want to have one, then grill out and chill.Originally posted by: Spooner
Everyone that is saying "stripper" for the Engagement Party hasn't got a clue, or has not read the thread.
A "BACHELOR PARTY" is taking place later. I'm talking about the Engagement Party here. A separate thing
