unless their families are big on formality, make it as casual as can be since the wedding will be insane.

backyard bbq sounds cute! you invite your friends, have a party celebrating the engagement, make sure you have friends with video cameras and digi cams to snap pictures of your first party celebrating the two of you together.

really don't know what else you can do outside of holding it at a restaurant that the bride and groom like, and you can fit a large number of people in. or you could always hold it at someone's home and cater out from that restaurant.

Everyone that is saying "stripper" for the Engagement Party hasn't got a clue, or has not read the thread.

A "BACHELOR PARTY" is taking place later. I'm talking about the Engagement Party here. A separate thing

Apparently you're not reading what everyones saying. Strippers are perfect for an engagement party. Especially since males don't generally celebrate their engagements and it's the women who mostly do.

Stupidest comment........... ever.

Look, here's how it goes:

- Man proposes to wife
- Wife accepts
- Engagement party held for the couple with friends/family
- Bridal Shower for ladies closer to wedding
- Bachelor Party for guys closer to wedding
- Wedding Rehearsal
- Wedding
- Divorce 😉

We are at Step 3. Get it now?

You can get one of those air filled castles and everybody can get wasted, take off their shoes and bounce inside.😛
That sounds like a great deal of fun. 🙂

I've never heard of a guy having an engagement party. A girl, sure... not a guy though. Are you sure that you and your buddies aren't women?

every engagement party i've heard about is more for the families to learn about it, to hand out invitations, give out food (mostly pastries) and then have dinner. its just a huge gathering to celebrate their engagements. the individual bachelor and bachelorette parties are held by their friends (do you REALLY want your mother there??) to celebrate their last few weeks of singledom.

Strippers

I've never understood this. The two parties have already devoted themselves to eachother. Why ruin it with something like this!? 😕 When I propose, I'm certainly not going to fvck it up by having naked women at a bachelor's party. If I did, I may as well be fvcking the babysitter 10 years into the marriage too.

I agree 100%... well about the first part that is...

My friends will hate me when I get engaged because I will refuse to have any strippers anywhere near me. They can go to a strip club if they are so desperate....

ok.. here's the deal. if you're lookin' to be traditional, you won't throw an engagement party at all because traditionally, if there is one, it's thrown by the bride's family. yet another thing on the list of things the bride's family is spozed to cover. I spared my parents that expense!

so.. you want to throw the couple an engagement party.. that's great! not traditional, but great! since it's not traditional, you can do anything you want. (except strippers, unless your gift to the couple is killin' off granny). since it's not traditional, you don't even have to invite their families I don't guess. do whatever you want. celebrate that engagement. make sure there are LOTS of pictures taken.

if it's tradition you want in all except the hosting of the party, then.. look here.. engagement party etiquette.

theres a world of difference here...

Yeah, the babysitter wouldn't let him hide the bone but strippers take cash. 🙂
