I just got this processor today from newegg.
Athlon XP 1700+ AIUGA 0245

I am currently at 10.5x166 = 1750mhz at default voltage 1.5v
Temps are about 5C higher than my AROIA at the same speeds. Currently at 45 idle.

I will install my slk800 and try to overclock higher and report back.

I am very excited since it is at 2100+ speeds at default voltage!!!

Now running at 11x166 = 1826 mhz @ default vcore 1.5v.
Ran all of SiSoft Sandra tests and 3dmark2001.
Temps are lower now at 40c idle.

Gonna try to get some more at default.

I believe that you might have a Rev B there! It carries the same stepping (if I'm not mistaken) as the 2400+ cpu ithat is a rev B. Saw this stepping alot on www.overclockers.com in their cpu database for the 2400+. Although that o/c might seem good, you should go ahead and try 2GHz, should do that easy if it's a rev B, which I think it is.

Good OC, I have the AIRGA stepping, and mine runs @ the same speed (11x166) but @ 1.625v. don't know if you got a REvB, but I am sure mine is not.

mine would boot to windows @1.92ghz but only @ 1.8V (too high IMO), but I am leaving it @ 1.8ghz

Wow, I currently at am 12x166 = 2000mhz at 1.7vcore.
Just finished some sisoft sandra benchmarks. Gonna do some 3dmark loops to see what happens.
Temps are at 47c idle

All this on epox 8k3a, 512mb pc2700 samsung, and slk800.

looped through 4 times and fine. gonna try a little higher

load temp is around 55c while looping 3dmark2001se. Does that seem high on a slk-800?

anyways, gonna give it another bump.

Hmm this is dissapointing. I am currently at 12.5x168 = 2100 mhz. My bios shows it as 2600+. This was all at the cost of 1.9vcore.
Idle temps are hovering around 49c.

I think I hit my wall. Im gonna bump it down to 2000mhz and burn test it all night for stability.

Overall very impressed with this 1700+

550mhz overclock is pretty decent.

I will reply tomorrow to see if my computer was stable looping 3dmark2001se all night.

holy crap mang! awsome OC! the XPs used to get around a 200mhz oc if you ewre lucky, now a 500mhz oc? things have changed!

Just to let people know, this is the revision "A" stepping of the throughbred. According to WCPUID the stepping ID is 0, while a throughbred "B" will show stepping ID of 1.

Yes! YES! I did it!!!! This is a 1700XP Thoroughbred Version "B" OC to 2100 xp wow!!!!! (UNBELIEVABLE) I got this from Newegg.com, thank you KIAMAN for your information.

I believe that KIAman's T-bred is revision A. All of the revision B T-bred's have a stepping that ends with B (AIUAB, AIUCB, etc.) For a revision A CPU, that is an extraordinary OC, congrads. Peace.

According to Overclockers.com -

"Per AMD's datasheets, an 1800+ Thoroughbred A has a default voltage of 1.5V, and thus should have a code of AXDA1800DLT3C, which is what the Newegg webpage says.
An 1800+ Thoroughbred B has a default voltage of 1.6V (that's what the datasheet says), and thus should have a code of AXDA1800D<B>U</B>T3C. "

No mention of a B core Xp1700+, however. Had a link to the datasheet, but can't find it now.

Just woke up about an hour ago, 12x166==2000mhz@1.725vcore stable all night with 3dmark2001se looped.
Temps are around 43c idle now. Kewl.

What are you using for cooling the CPU?

I have the slk-800 on a vantec tornado 80mm fan at 84cfm. The thing is I tried 3 different fans.
The 30cfm generic fan was about 8c hotter, but the 50.1cfm AND my vantec 84cfm fan post the exact same results. Oh well, I kept my vantec in there since i dont mind the sound.

I didnt exactly mean "dissapointing" but it took a good .2v jump to make 100mhz more. Also keeping it at 2600+ speeds would have been awesome, but temps were so high just idling.

Another thing is, this chip seems hotter than my AROIA. It is about a consisten 5c higher idle/load at comparable speeds AND that includes the fact the throughbred is running at a much lower vcore. Wierd huh?

Fedex doesn't delivery on Sat or I will have my 1700 to play with today. Now I'm crossing my fringers...

The core surface is relatively small. The heat could not dissipate from the core at a fast rate. Less surface contact means higher temps.

Another factor that contributes to the higher temperatures is that the Thoroughbred core has more transistors, and, therefore, is drawing more current. Since power dissapation is related to voltage and current, a current increase could easily offset a voltage decrease. Peace.
