Well It looks like i'm getting some TM1 throttling when I go over 3.4ghz under 100% cpu load. However, not when i'm playing games. CPU load peaks at around 60-70% when I'm running any kind of game, with no TM1 throttling. So, I don't know what else would be causing this stuttering in-game w/ both hl2 and f.e.a.r. I'm going to run 2 memtest runs all day while i'm at work and see if any of the 4 512 sticks are bad. What else could be causing this? I've gone over pretty much everything, other than my 450w psu not supplying enough power. But i don't have the $$$ to go buy one to test. damn.

What brand is your 450w PSU, and what are the 12v rails rated at? Why not try running the games at stock speeds and see if you still get the stuttering. If your ram was bad, most likely you would be crashing rather than just getting stuttering in games. Make sure your video card isn't overheating as well, thats another possibility for the stuttering. Have you tried setting affinity for the games to run on a specific core?

What is S&M? Throttle watch detects no throttling on my pc, but I would like to try this S&M program just to be sure. I tried googling but only got things to come up relating to motorcycles of fascism.

The powersupply is an antec truepower 450 that came with my sonata II case. Also, I've run everything at stock levels and still get the stuttering. I'm not sure if this stuttering would be caused by performance w/ everythign at stock, but it's the same as it is with running the chip at 3.6 and vid at 650-750 than it is at all stock levels. I thought it was a paging issue with too little ram (1gb) but I put in another gig and it's still accuring. It might be a video card issue, because now (out of nowhere, no changes in drivers or anything) the screen goes green when loading any type of video, and when I get into loading a game up, the system hangs. Hopefully it's not a hardware issue with my video card, i'll reinstall all drivers and see if this is still happening.

I found the S&M. I must say that my processor is running hotter than the sun ;) I do not understand why it is running so hot though. I am running the stock cooler at maximum fan speed with Arctic Silver 5 on it, I have two 120mm case fans, two 80mm case fans, a 120mm fan on the power supply, and a high speed gpu fan. With S&M, my cpu is getting up to 77-78C full load. It is not throttling in the least bit either. How can it be that a case with this much airflow have a processor run that hot? If I am getting these kinds of temps and I have more airflow than a huge amount of people, how on Earth are other people even able to run theirs on the stock cooler at all? Could it be that my cpu temperature sensor is off?

try using the motherboards temp monitoring if it has any. Reseating the HSF might help as well. My guess is that the readings are off.

I had the same problem. I then went to the Big Typhoon, and now my troubles are gone. Nobody seemd to believe me, and I said to everyone not to get the 805, as the money you save on cpu, you make up with more exspensive motherboard to OC, new HSF, bigger power supply.... Well I am glad somebody can agree that the stock HSF won't even work. At those temps, its throttleing., check the second core on S&M, thats where I first saw it. Two tabs.

How do I check if the other core is throttling or not? It does seem like the heatsink is garbage, despite the fact that it looks cool. It seems that it actually does throttle at 78C if it is left to sit there long enough. What is a good heatsink/fan combo that I can get on Newegg that is not too expensive and will allow me to mount it on my mainboard without much work?

I am not at home right now, but there are tabs for each core. Also, you have to let S&M run at full blast for full load to see if throttlling is happening. Mine would run at 3.0 ghz with the side cover off and fans running also, and would run 68c. If it hit 70c, my motherboard would shut down the system, and I couldn;t change the temp at which it shut down. Now with the typhoon, I am at 3.5 ghz, and case cover on, and 65c full load. My X2 3800 with stock HSF runs 55c full load @2.5 ghz. Big difference.

Throttle watch has a cpu load graph and a TM1 throttling graph. The cpu load one shows both processors, but the throttling one simply has a single bar that goes up and down depending on throttling. I have confirmed that if I let S&M run at full blast, my cpu will throttle once it hits the 78-79C mark. I suppose the Big Typhoon would be a good buy. It is a bit expensive for my taste, but I suppose I could swing it. How difficult would it be to set it up? Would I have to take the motherboard out of my case to put the heatsink on? Does it come with instructions?

I am probably going to order in the next ten minutes. Thermaltake Big Typhoon on Intel D945PSN mainboard with Intel Pentium D 820 Yes or No?

I would try the scythe ninja. My 830 was throttling on the stock heatsink as well and that was at stock speeds as well. The scythe ninja is keeping my 805 2c cooler than my water cooling was, so I can definatly say I'm happy with it. You will have to take the motherboard out of the case for the ninja, and I think the big typhoon as well. I think part of what helps the ninja is that the fan is mounted on the side of the heatsink instead of on top, so it actualy works with the airflow in the case.

I am using a 450w antec with mine as well, but I have a 6200TC video card, so I'm using less power there. It also seems my power supply is the limiter of my overclock. Again, I would recomend trying to run the games at stock speeds on both the CPU and video card to eliminate throttling and heat issues from the picture.

Well, I went ahead and got the Big Typhoon. I figure 1000+ votes and still an average of 5 eggs, everyone who has it likes it, and it gets great reviews, so it must be good. Newegg does not seem to carry the Ninja.

The ninja gets great marks and may be easier to install, but the big typhoon does cool well. Read the instructions carfully, its a pain to install, but then works great !

They do but they don't call it the ninja. They call it the nj1000a or something like that.
