JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Three people have been killed in a blast at a busy McDonald's restaurant in the eastern Indonesian town of Makassar.

Is this the start of the 'gift' of terror. I wonder how many more American companies will be hit over sees in the next couple of days.

I hate that people have to do stuff like this for their causes. Why can't these stupid fundamentalists just die and quit trying to blow everyone else up.

You know what would solve the problem? Let's bomb even more underdeveloped, third-world countries with a starving populace and pitiful semblance of a government.

hey if thats what it takes
sadly, even if we comply with their demands, they'll just find another reason to keep bombing us. they don't want us out of the middle east, they want us dead.

Somehow, I doubt that. The only person that dislikes another because of 'who they are' is a bully... and there's only one bully I see here.

I agree, let's put them out of their misery before they starve to death.

And what is sadder yet is that America doesn't care until is comes here. Let them blow up all they want over sees, but the second it happens here, all hell breaks loose. It shouldn't be this way but it is.

Not sure I understand the sarcastic remark. Has someone made that claim?

Sounds like speculation to me.
Im waiting for evidence to show that they were specifically targeting Americans and American companies.

It clearly said that its an ongoing conflict and that it has happened at American companies before, although not often. How come we never heard of it before then?

"Bombings have become a regular feature of a continuing conflict between Muslims and Christians on Sulawesi island. "
So which group is the "terrorist" group? Has to be the muslims right?

I think we care. But in a detached sort of way. If somebody in your town that you knew of gets killed in a car wreck you shrug your shoulders and say, "Damn, well that sucks". Now, if it was a parent, sibling, spouce, or child of yours, then your reaction would be quite different.

What about the Bali blast? I don't think Americans took two seconds to reflect on it and 200 people died. It wasn't as bad as 9/11 but it was still the same motives. Other countries had ceremonies with both 9/11 and Bali. America said oh thats bad about the Bali blast but never held any official ceremonies.

This is new. The past fighting was around Poso, central sulawesi. Makasar is on the southern tip of the island. Poso only became a trouble spot until laskar jihad made a training camp there.

So we need to hold an "Official Ceremony" in order to be counted as ones who care? Sorry. Don't think so. Me not showing up to a funeral doesn't change my grief or agony that I have over someones death.

I'd like to say that even in our own country, we have differing levels of "care" and "concern" about 9/11. Living in Iowa, and not having anyone I know injured that day, I'm much more detached than someone that saw it happen in person or lost a loved one in the events.

It still troubled me, but not like somebody who worked in the towers or knew somebody that did.

No he isn't. I cannot control what goes on in the rest of the world. I try to stay informed to the rest of the world by paying attention to good news outlets like the BBC, NPR, CNN, et al.. But in reality everyone reacts more strongly to things that happen in their backyard then they do elsewhere. Vi-edit is correct, if your family was injured you would feel the brunt of it. But if it was just someone from your old town, you would feel sad but not nearly as devastated. I think this holds true for all humans on this planet. I for one am sad any innocent people die, but I am not going to hold a ceremony every time because we all have to get on with our lives and try to be productive.

There is little difference between a terrorist, and a spoiled child. Give in and appease either, and you'll regret it.

By your logic, giving in to temper tantrums is the way to stop terrorists and spoiled children.

I meant not to have a ceremony like we did this 9/11 but maybe a day of remembrance. Like at a certain time we could just pause for a second. Wyvrn, you seem to be the exception of the general public. Most people I talked to thought Bali was just some suicide bomber killing a couple of people. When you would mention 200 poeple, they all got a shocked look on their faces. Maybe the pres should of come on at 8pm and interupted the prime time viewing so many are glued to. It just seems like people don't give a damn.

Living in the Boston area for the past couple of years really made me see some rude people who only think about themselves. It is common among most of the people in the area and it makes my wife and I sick to our stomachs. Yesterday, some guy stopped in the middle of an intersection at the mall and decided to talk to one of his friends in another car. There were at least five cars in each direction waiting to get through the intersection and he sat there for at least 30 seconds until I leaned on the horn and he gave me a dirty look. He then backs up to make a u-turn right in the middle of the intersection. @sshole. This is the general feeling I get from alot of people around here. The people are rude at the grocery stores, malls and almost anywhere they can be.

:(
