Is this the name of the game that you play with a football where one person throws the ball and the others try to catch it. once they get 3 catches they switch to the throwing position. is that what this game is called?
 
It's called 500. And you don't play by # of catches. The person throwing calls out a number of points, in increments of 50, when he/she throws it. The person catching it gets that number of points. First person to 500 becomes the thrower. If the thrower calls "Jackpot" the person that catches it becomes thrower immediately.
 
Three flies up is the same game described in the original post, except it's witha baseball and a bat, and people are catching fly balls.
