I know I've seen a thread or two on this subject ...
... but ... cant seem to locate them here ...

Can anyone post some "real world testing" threads on this subject again ...?

All else equal, just running the PC for x amount of time I don't believe it'd help.

However, with the arctic silver and other hs compounds, they don't reach maximum efficiency until x amount of hours of operation. At which point the CPU will run a bit cooler than before. Therefore you could possibly overclock higher.

Just theory here, can't back it up w/ links. Interested to be proven wrong though.

I burn in to identify problems. I doubt there is enough difference between the performance of thermal compound to justify it for only that reason.

I always thought burn-in was to see if your nice little oem athlon was gonna blow up on you.

I do it to blow it up early if it going to die. Easier to get a replacement at 1 wek than 6 months.

The only real good a burn in test will do is test to see if your new system is stable with its current configuration. It doesn't make it go faster or anything though.
