Wall draw also includes power supply efficiency losses. With Gold/Platinum rated PSUs you are still losing between 8%-13% as heat depending on the load and efficiency at that load.

Its the AX1200 Corsair, supposedly the best PSU in its class still to date (johnnyguru.com)
So if I am losing 10%, thats 70 watts, leaving 15 watts for fans, motherboard AIO and NVME. Sound about right ?

OK, just verified that 1.1 vcore by Ryzen master (cpu-z says 1.072) has a max for me at 3650 mhz. For very small watt increase, getting 350 mhz more out of the chip, I think I am happy here. I can run 3.8 or 4.0 stable on the 2 other saved configs, but 800 or 920 watts (with the video cards) is too much for me. 700 seems just fine, where stock is 660.

And temps are 57.5c@3650

I have the same motherboard and case and I can recommend. My only gripe with the case was it was a bit hard to mount the HDDs on the backside (behind the mother board) .

Well, I don't know why you went with the 1900x instead of the 1920 or 1950 and I hope the memory is cas 14 (samsung b-die, 14,14,14,34) and not sure why not the vega64, but all-in all looks like a great build.

I don't think the 1900x is worth getting to be honest. I think you should get the 1920x at a minimum. Beyond that, everything looks fine

I also handn't thought about adding an intake fan on the bottom. I may have to do that.

Last question. That looks like an Asetek based cooler. How have your temps been? The enermax TR4 unit is my preference but is out of stock a bit and as a backup I was considering one of the 360mm Asetek units (Thermaltake Floe Riing for example).

I couldn't justify spending even more on the 1920X based on my use. While I probably could make do with an R7 or 8700K I intend to keep the basics of the system for several years. X370 and Z370 don't hold a candle to the flexibility of the X399. So I was basically looking for the cheapest entry into the X399 platform.

The 1900X is faster than the 8700K in many productivity workflows, it's also not bad at gaming. Plus with only half the die(s) being active it should be interesting to OC.

The ram is 3200 14-14-14 and looks to be Samsung plus it's on the QVL. Anyway to confirm B-die?

While the RX 64 is faster than the 56 it's not by much once the 56 is tweaked.

I'm only gaming on 25x14 60hz so it's a good fit. Plus it gives me an excuse to upgrade in a year or two once Navi and Volta are out.

1) The case came with the controller so I assume that's the only option.

2) I was going to get the 360mm thermaltake floe ring cooler but then another member pointed me to this article and I didn't:

So I got the corsair h115i which has a flat coldplate. I think it's fine if you aren't going to OC (although I should point out I haven't tried). I will probably upgrade to the enermax or similar at some point. The temps I am getting currently seem fine ~65C max while gaming.

I had the artic cooling 360 with 6 fans in push/pull. The enermax 360 TR4 does the same with 3 fans, but at least both worked fine.

The memory if its 14,-14-14-34, its b-die.

as a backup you can consider the Noctua NH-U14S TR4, according to reviews it performs better than asetek AIOs, and its basically half of the price

Just be aware of the "fit". I was not sure, but after looking at the pics, it looked like it would not fit, so I got the enermax. I am VERY happy with it. 57c 100% load @3650

There is a MB compatibility list at Noctua site, and all boards seems to be compatible, including the ASUS Zenith (just that in this one the GC cant be installed in the first PCI-E slot)

OK, 4 ghz testing. 1.375 vcore might be stable@77.5c (so far)

Edit: for this@100% load and 2 1080TI's@100%, now drawing 920 watts from the wall.

I may go back to 3,8... 130 watts more for 200 mhz ???

I found I get a big frame difference in both Far Cry 3 and Deus Ex MD. I have also found that virtual box does not like 12 cores/24 threads.

Define 'not like'? I haven't had any issue with 16 cores/32 threads.

Regarding gaming mode, just set the Memory Access Mode to local and that should give the majority of your framerate.

I'm looking at the 1950X, but even with the 8-core, the biggest advantages over X370 for me are PCIe lanes and Quad channel memory. There's an added bonus of Threadripper using the top bins for cores.

Yeah that was a bit vague I guess. 🙂 I couldn't start a VM in creator mode but it could have been unrelated. Which as you can imagine was really annoying given the difference in core/thread count between game and creator mode.

I have a new memory kit coming soon to play with. I have a kit of 32gb the same kit markfw has. I also have a 64gb kit of corsair 3000mhz lpx vengance. I now want to play with RGB memory, so going with a 64gb g.skill 3600mhz

The settings for 3.8 and 4.0 are only cursory, loaded for an hour or two, not DAYS like my current config. So those are only close. I think it took 1.42 to get 4.1 ghz, the fastest I have done, but that was for MINUTES, as it was peaking at 97c, and probably throttling. I like the speed/efficiency at 1.1 vcore/3650 mhz.

My current cooling solution can't cool the CPU at those speeds though. Well maybe it can, but AMD states that the recommended temperature is 68C. 3.8 @ 1.175 puts me at around 73C (prime 95 using 'maximum heat' settings), which is a bit too toasty for my taste...needless to say that lowering the voltage will lower both heat and power consumption. Try lowering your voltage a quarter at a time (1.175 - 1.150 - 1.125, etc.) and running Prime95. When it errors out or the machine locks, you can't go any lower. Running 3.8 @ 1.25 vs 1.175 is the difference between my cooler being able to keep the CPU cool or it warming up to the 80C+ range.

For me, there are something like 2 games that I've tried so far that crash. The rest do great. Threadripper is actually a beast at gaming if you tweak everything.

The problem is the power consumption. I run 24/7/365@100% load Right now its at 680 watts. When I was at 1.2 it was 800 watts, and 1,.375 920 watts. I like the 680 number more than the speed. But if I get bored(now that I have a better cooler) I may try min voltage@ 4 ghz.

Oh, and those numbers are with the 2 1080TI's@100%. My PSU (AX1200) I don't like loaded that high 24/7 (the 920) so anyway, its the electric bill and the hardware. This months bill I was happy with at $405 due to lower temps, and mostly no AC

I have stable system with 3333 MHz @ 14-16-16-34 and 3.85 @ 1.2V.
prime95 blend stress test for ~5 hours (max temps CPU ~72C) / benchmark test passed.
aidi64 stress test 15min (max temps CPU ~68C)
cinebench test.

Posting this here, so as not to anger coffeelake people. Someone was bragging about an 8600 (k?) 6 core using 200 watt and only 66c. Well I have 16 cores and 32 threads@200 watts (about) @57c, and about 4 times the computing power. I think that threadripper is a very efficient CPU !
