BUT When the 2950x comes out, I think the excitement may come back !!!!

What's not to get excited about? 😀 The cost will be interesting. I'm waiting for the entire line up. As I'll probably buy a 1700 or 1800 first. Actually I think I'm more excited about the built in graphics.
 
I decided to start installing a custom loop on my 1920x build. Turns out I need a bigger case so I ordered the TT View 71 RGB. Guess I will just have to wait.....

Personally, I want to get 360 copper radiator that can house 120mm fans ... The more surface area you got the lower the fans can spin for the same output.

I have a Thermaltake View 31 RGB, not sure what the differences are, but looks like the same from the inside. Anyway, I got 3 120mm fans to fit on the front, had to re-route the cables but I made it fit, even tho Thermaltake said it couldn't be done.

I like that copper water block tho.

Yeah, well, I was tired! Seems they don't have the TR4 version yet. I did relocate my radiator from enermax seems to cool a bit better side mounted than top mounted.

You'll have to keep us updated on the temps you are getting with that block. I'd suggest going with a bigger rad tho.

Not sure if you're talking to me, but I have 2x360mm rads. I think I have enough to build mine, just have to find the time and hope my RAM works. I'll probably end up getting a Watercool block for my Vega64 eventually and I've been eyeing the MO-RA3 (3x360 or 3x420).

If I go with the 360, I have enough fans. I'd have to buy 140's if I went with the 420. I guess I could grab the grill for 180-230mm fans to cut down the number of fans, but I haven't done much research on the larger fan sizes.

IMO 2x360 rads is pointless with threadripper as it appears to have a power package limit. 1 360 rad, a decent pump, and some decent fans will keep the chip cool to 4.1 GHz (under 68 degrees C)

The MO-RA3-360 would be plenty.

Add a Vega64 and GTX1070/1080Ti. I like running fans slower for less noise as well.
 
obviously, the more surface area you have in radiators, not just the higher cooling capacity for more OC room, but, you can turn down the fan speed for not just using less power, but more importantly a quieter operating rig. EEK, what speed are you running the pump and fans to get a 1950X at 4.1 under 68 degrees? As soon as you even get close to 68 degrees TR starts to throttle the cores by rolling back on the voltage. I'd say you want to see 66 degrees for full performance as temps tend to bounce around after a chip has been running for a few hours at heavy load. But, as others have said, when you get that second 1080 ti installed, you'll be installing that second rad sooner than later.

My case a view 31, can only support two 360. I kinda wonder if I could get a 420 around 18" to fit in the top.

Having memory timing issues here now that I've got everything up and running, my system is below:

Motherboard - Gigabyte Aorus gaming 7 x399
RAM - Gskill Flare X 32Gb (Model F4-3200C14Q-32GFX)
Graphics - Gigabyte Aorus Geforce 1080 ti 11Gb
PSU - Seasonic Gold plus 750W

I've enabled XMP profile 1 in my BIOS and it shows RAM at 3200Mhz 1.35V but when 3D rendering I ran HWinfo64 and it showed RAM at 1197Mhz and 1.2V.

I know XMP profiles can be problematic but is this just a case of manually inputting timings? if so would anyone have anything reliable to put in?
 
Now that I have baby's first custom loop. 😛 I realise for starters (as was mentioned to me) that I am going to need a bigger radiator. I also just assumed that a full tower would let me fit a custom loop easy. Which is not the case if I want two radiators. This case does allow for external radiators though. Also soft tubing sucks it's easy to fit but meh. I seem to have slightly kinked one of the tubes too.

Anyway. 4GHz @ 1.425 running Prime 95 gives me a starting point of 72C on 6 cores it seems relatively stable. All I am planning on using it for is gaming atm anyway. Until I can get a better custom loop but that will be in a few months. Gaming doesn't push the temps too hard if it goes over 68C it's not for a sustained period. Seems to be more like a spike. I am using AMD master so I can switch between profiles. In case I want to do some rendering or something because I don't think the loop can handle 4Ghz. For something CPU intensive. 😛

Also I haven't tried tweaking the voltage too much I just wanted to get an overclock going.

Anyways. I am going to revisit the whole thing in about 6 months.

Okay, so it will actually run at 3200mhz but it's resetting the BIOS the next time I boot and will only boot to 2400mhz...

If you are on the latest bios I’m not sure what to tell you.

Grasping at straws I might try reseating the RAM or dropping back a bios version and seeing if it exhibits the same behavior.

I had that on early UEFIs for Gigabyte B350 and X370 boards. Annoying that they can't seem to put that bug to rest. Make sure you are running the latest UEFI, then try this while ONLY using the keyboard to set settings:

1) load defaults, save, reboot
2) set voltages (e.g. 1.38V for memory), save, reboot
3) set memory speed and timings manually, save, reboot
