Thread Views

I like it :thumbsup: The only thing I worry about is if you get like 10000 pages views. Won't that mess up the box size?
 
It's really interesting to watch the view counts in OT. Some threads are getting hit a few times a second and yet they only have a small handful of posts.
 
Whoa. I thought that was different. It's pretty useful, I guess. I think we should keep it. 🙂
 
Jason - don't tease us and take it away! 🙁 I love the fact that it's there but won't it put a heavy load on the server? (The reason it was originally turned off)
 
BTW - does the thread view even work right? Supertool's "Do you use anti-bacterial soap" thread has 34 replies but only 10 views - and there's more than 10 unique users who have posted in that thread. How is that right?

Because his thread was created before the counting began I suspect. All the counters were at 0 when the feature was turned on.

Yup, I also think the stupid nefs will have too much fun with this to see how many views they can get threads up to.

It's a better indicator of how hot a topic really is.

Just a cursory glance at the other categories shows that since views were turned on more people have looked at this thread than any other. You wouldn't really know that based on the paltry 21 posts it has.

I wouldn't mind them bringing back the counter that shows the number of people viewing AT and different categories either. Maybe I just like figures and stats too much! 🙂

I account for at least 800 of this thread's views. I was checking up on amdfanboy's idea that too many posts will cause problems. 5 minutes and a 800 refresh clicks later it hit 1000. No problems at that point. But I'm not clicking refresh another 9000 times to check for problems at the 10000 mark. Maybe someone can write a little script to do that.

My point: # of views means nothing. Heck just posting here made me view twice (once to click on the thread and once when my post is created).

Edit: make that 3 times, as it refreshed on its own after this edit.

I have a script that could do it and I started it but then quit because I figured Jason might not appreciate the 10,000 hits.

Edit: Also, the fact that you were willing to refresh 800 times still indicates to me that there is really strong interest in this thread. 🙂
