Nice feature on some UBB boards, show # of replies and # of times your thread has been viewed, one of those features that until you see it and get used to it, you don't realize how useful it is.

yes, no?

Nope :). It's a resource eating hog, the forums have that capability but we turn it off for speed. UBB could not handle out load, especially with a thread counter on.

damn.. thats too bad. does arstechnica have that much less of a load than here? I'm a huge AT fan, but they have a much busier forum for certain things, namely technical Windows NT and Linux questions, and their case and cooling forum is way more active than ours here.

anyway, I'm still an AT'er for life.

one other thing I was wondering about was image posting. I know this has been tossed around forever, but whats the reason for not having image posting? is it its a resource hog (???) or that the AT members aren't "mature enough to handle it" ?

Image posting would not effect me... since I have sufficient bandwidth, but im sure on dialup it would make the forums much slower to view and read and enjoy.

Links to pictures are quite preferable then if I decide I want to see the picture I just click the link and its there to view.

Val, yeah their forum is probably not even a third of the traffic here. It's not an option with database fed apps, an update counter running with 3000 simultaneous connects is suicide for any database. We will not be turning it on, thanks. We would rather have one of the fastest most feature rich forums running all the time, doing its job properly.
