Thread Stuck in Device Driver

Been getting this BSOD error on my win 8.1 machine lately. The MB is several years old and has the latest bio, and the amd card also has the latest drivers.

Other than uninstalling the video drivers and doing a fresh install, not sure what to do. Can't find any indication in the event viewer of the actual driver that is being the problem but given that the monitor becomes heavily distorted just before the computer going down, thinking it is graphic related.

It says 100% done, but only once did it then shut the computer down on its own. Every other time I had to do a reset so I'll need to check if there actually is a file made.

looks like the video card is becoming toast. looked up the file info and it was a series of ati sys driver or directx errors. when trying to boot up today I've got a nice selection of large red vertical bars on the screen along with some nice corrupted text during the bios sequence. As soon as the window logo closes the screen goes a nice solid grayish tint.

after managing to get the integrated gpu back on line (thanks MS for killing ability to uninstall in safe mode, idiots) I tried loading different amd driver packs and during the install sequence occasionally my desktop would appear on the video card monitor, with the red bars. it would always disappear once complete and if I tried to extend the desktop over to it I'd lose both displays.

Also after I first uninstalled the latest driver and tried to reinstall, going into the catalyst control center and I had no options for adjusting any video options. I could just barely catch a glimpse while it opened of the oval(s) for those options being removed as the program started. Found that rather odd.

Diamond hd 7970.

And to make things even better, they're being [redacted] about my warranty saying they can't find me in the system so have a nice day.

Who is they? Diamond?

You might be able to get $20-30 on ebay. People with the skills/equipment buy and repair GPUs and resell them.

They finally accepted it for RMA after I was adamant about it having been entered in the system. Now to find out what I get in return.
