Snatchface, I have that album but it is not my favorite. I think I am in the minority when I say that I really like Falling Into Infinity. Scenes From a Memory is my
favorite, and I also really like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Awake and
Images and Words are great albums but the don't have the same inspirational effect that their later works do. Good to see another Gentle Giant fan though! Check out the link I posted, we might have a lot of prog-rock stuff in common.

I dont think Meshuggah counts as prog. They're very very good, and very creative, but the simple fact that their past few albums have been written in completely 4/4 time automatically makes all prog snobs turn up their noses in disgust. 🙂 Which is really too bad, cause Meshuggah definitely deserves a listen, and they are very complex.

Dream Theater is without a doubt the best prog band out there. They're not overboard proggish, not overly metal, and their songs are so well written and devised. They are definitely one of my favorite bands ever. Everyone, whether they're into prog or not, deserves to give these guys a listen.

Ok, I just ordered some Tool, C&C, LTE and Mogwai. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the input all.

If you didn't order Lateralus, I suggest you try to change your order and try to get that instead.

Its their best (and most prog) in my not-so-humble opinion.

Duly noted. I'll have to pick it up locally.

BTW, for the DT fans. James LaBrie (the shreaker) started with the band on Images And Words. Prior to him their lead singer was incredible. Some of the most creative and melodic vocals ever. He sounded a lot like Geddy Lee. Unfortunately he was older, had a family, and could not tour with the band so they had to get someone else. In those first few albums with LaBrie, IMHO he is just a tad less shreaky than, say, King Diamond. Yes you can get used to it, but should you have to? Too bad they just couldn't keep the original guy, he was awesome.

But for anyone who loves DT definitely check out When Dream and Day Unite. Production quality is not as polished as on the later albums but the music is awesome.

Hehe, I guess we got different tastes. I actually prefer James LaBrie 🙂. Although you've got me listening to the older DT stuff
again right now 🙂

Transatlantic has gone down pretty smooth - Bridge Across Forever. Reminds me of old Genesis somewhat. Lateralus has been listened to in a very cursory manner - does not strike me as being progressive at all, but I'll keep trying 🙂 I do like the hard stuff (MUSIC, you sickos).

I have a vacation at the end of the month and will be driving for several days...I'll get a chance to listen to it all on the new Accord 180W stereo (pretty schweet) and drive the GF nutters.
