Where you going to school?

I'd definitely say a computer with a DVD drive and a decent set of speakers-cover your movies, music, and general computing needs with one tool.

no actually you dont need them, i took them with me, used them for mabye a month and then never used them for the rest of my 4 years in college

So your bathroom floor was clean or you just didn't care?

it was cleaned once a week, and even if it wasent i didnt care, i walked around with no shoes on all the time

- A comfortable chair for your desk (personally, I have a leather chair purchased from Staples -- it replaces the wooden chairs they give you by default).
- A round-chair or a futon -- something for your visitors and/or yourself
- Gaming console - even the "cool" kids play video games
- Headphones for your laptop/desktop (when your roommate wants to do work and you want to play, you need headphones to keep the noise to an absolute minimum)
- Snacks & Spare Food - Ah, the joys of the midnight snack and/or when you don't want to eat cafeteria food and/or when you missed a meal due to schoolwork or something
- Christmas lights - believe it or not, it really adds unique lighting to your room during and not during the X-mas season
- Spare black cartridge for your printer (especially for you people who leave things to the absolute last minute)
- Glade plug-in air freshners - This sounds very girly but my room was considered to be the only nice-smelling room in the whole male wing

The sandals probably depend on the school ... while I never used them, I was aware of people who frequently used the showers to rinse out their nasty garbage cans, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone took the occasional dump. YMMV between a small private school vs. a 20 story megadorm at a 40k student state school.

I made the mistake of not using shower sandals for a while... got some foot fungus that funked up my feet and shoes to the point of having to throw them out.

Having said that, bring the bloody things. I can't imagine what one could have contracted from the dirty shower floors. In addition:

1) Basket for your laundry
2) Carrying case for all your toiletries
3) Swiss Army Knife/Tools
4) Extra cat5
5) Duct tape
6) Isolation headphones/canalphones

...and the most important of all....THESE!!!

yes im well aware of what people do in showers, i do it as well

fact is ive NEVER worn shoes in the shower, in college or in the 10 or so years i was at overnight camps that went for a week or 2

there nothing wrong with my feet and there never has been
