Sounds good as long as the DLC isn't something that should have obviously have been included in the initial release.

Or something you actually did include in the initial release, and then decided to charge people to unlock...

Heck i'm waiting for just the base game to be $60 without DLCs.....

I just wait till they go bargain bin LOL

That ignores profits... it's not about how much you can sell, but the profit!

Price elasticity is a well known economic concept. Set the price right, and the resulting demand will more than make up for the reduced profit margin. This is especially true on virtual goods where the cost of of the 1000th sale is lower than the first.

Introversion were effectively saved by a steam promotion, so there's even a gaming specific example to demonstrate this.

Ultimately everything may go freemium (or close to it, say $9.99 to cover packaging and materials and shipping, even if it's a digital download, just to keep things even) + microtransactions. Free to play much of the game, with $cost for lots of little DLC.

$59.99
$39.99 + some DLC
$19.99 + even more DLC
$9.99 + tons o' DLC
