better question is how many meals? If the number of people is low enough the bunnies might be able to feed the people forever due to their birthrates.

If you had around 16 rabbits you could keep a family of 4 stocked up with meat. But you would have to do planned breeding so the gene pool does not get depleted.

Gestation period is around 28 days, then another 6 - 8 weeks before they reach frier size. Some people say 4 - 6 weeks.

With 12 does, and each doe throwing a litter every 3 months - 28 days gestation, then a 2 month break before breeding again.

Lets just say 3 months is 90 days. 90 days / 12 rabbits = 7.5 kits.

You would need a litter of around 8 kittens per litter to feed a family of 4. To have a buffer, go with 14 - 16 does.

So what if the female ratio were greater?

Well, your original numbers were 12 females to 4 males.

What if it were more than this?

Depends on how diversified you want your gene pool.

You can breed brother and sister, but you can not breed the children back to the parents.

The offspring of buck 1 would go to buck 2, then the offspring would go to buck 3, then to buck 4, then back to buck 1.

By the time the kits got back to their great-great grandfather, or great-great grandmother, there has been enough genetic material added that the offspring should be healthy.

The best part is how they're going to shoot thousands of rabbits for only 12 people. I love being a human being

Where do I sign up to do my part?

he islands were left to the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) by their previous owner, the Gaelic folklorist and scholar John Lorne Campbell in 1981, and are run as a farm and conservation area. Canna House, one of two big houses on the island (the other being Tighard), contains John Campbell's important archives of Gaelic materials that were donated with the islands to the nation.[2] Since then the NTS has engaged in new initiatives to attract new residents and visitors to the island.

Not a fuckhead in sight, and they WANT me there! Nothing but glorious isolation. Just me and the bunnies. I'll spend my time searching for viking relics hidden the ground.

They had a landslide? Sounds like bad luck. And now these fools want to get rid of all the rabbit feet on the island? This won't end well.
