Looking to get this case. It looks really good (for overclocking)! Anyone have any experience with it? Any alternatives that you think are better?

Thanks,

my girl friend has a xp1700 thats overclocked to 2.2ghz @ 1.6vcore with corsair memory, and all the other goodies (g4, cd burner, dvd rom etc) and its running no else than 46C at the worse of times (ie the hotest part of the day etc).

she has the slightly older xaser 2, but it cools down rather nicely. i believe by me putting a better cooling fan on it, im sure i can get the temps right down... im using a falcon rock heatsink/fan combo, so its not the best, but it does work..

im going to uprate the fans so that more air is pushing into the case, but other than that, i cant fault it. even with the 5 fans working, its not really noisy and to me it doesnt bother me after a long time using the pc.

i hope that has helped you in some way with your choice :)

I own one it's functional.
Actually, it's pretty nice.
Keeps my system cool.
Get the Aluminum case, the steel ones are very heavy.

Beofre switching to my current Coolermaster i had the Casetek generic you can buy at Newegg. All in all I loved it. It was quite huge and very heavy but the room to work inside was amazing and my temps ran as cool as my current case. it was a bit noisy with all of the fans, but i really did love it. In fact i kept it planning on using it again for another build.

I also modded the side door for a 120mm panaflo high output to cool my 9800.

I would have to agree that for the price i think there are cases that perform just as well and are a little lkess gaudy.. but if bells and whistles are your thing then by all means pick it up!

Antecs/chieftec = Xaser without all the ugly stuff on it :) Same on the inside.

So if you just want the space and well designed case, you can go for something a bit cheaper, and less ugly if you dont like the xaser designs like me :)

My thoughts are that they are ugly. I agree that going with a cheaper Antec/Cheiftec solution would be better. But then, that's just my personal tastes speaking. If you like the Xaser get it. I won't have to look at it. ;) That being said, I would never trade my Lian-Li PC-6x (I can't remember which I have. It's an early one and I'm at work AND I'm too lazy to look ;)) for a Xaser. or really any other case right now. I love my Lian-Li.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking all the crazy lines and X'es and circles and spots and swoopy lines are just plain ugly.

Gimme' straight, defined, elegance!

I have a Xaser III V2000A and love it. I've had "elegant" cases before and was ready for something "fun." This case is fun! I don't think it's ugly, I think it's pretty nice-looking. In a fun way! It's also an excellent case. Runs cool, plenty of room inside, no sharp edges, looks and feels sturdy. Got a great deal on it as a refurb from Newegg, and have been very pleased. I'm using it for the AMD system in my sig if you'd like to see how I've got it rigged. The wires from the Hardcano/fans cleaned up nicely, got some blue cathode/led action in there. As configured, the silver case/blue lights fit right in with my young son's rocket ship theme. Blast off!

I agree. I love my Lian Li, but I'm ready for something with a higher "fun factor". I guess in a year when I get tired of "fun", I can always go back to the elegance of my PC-65. :)

I have this case and love it.
Runs cool, easy to install and a breeze to use the sideway hard drive set up.
I think it looks awesome. I have the black case.

T-Take Xaser and Antec is mostly what I build with, I love em both ... Antec is nice and solid not unlike older Alienware boxes and the T-Takes, well I just think they're down right pretty.

Good luck with your build

This case is a fun case as dahdee said, with a window the bold X in the front etc it is in my opinion a case for people who like to stand out. so as far as looks go i give it a 8/10 - i wont give it a 10 since in the windowed version the side fans mount on a stupid plastic door which blocks most of the window anyway - but with a mod you can get past that (i cut out a 92mm fan aperture, stuck an aluminum fan w/ a hurricane laser cut grille - came cool ;))

BUT

as far as 'performance' is concerned it simply sucks:

The fans it ships with are silent but simply dont move enough air

The supplied fan controller is *weak* dont try hookin up a tornado or similarly powerful fan (1A) coz it will simply burn out

All the fans except the back 2 are mounted behind VERY restrictive grilles (had to cut them all out using the dremel)

now all in all after the mods i've done to it (fan grilles and the side fan on the window) i think its a pretty great case which operated around 5 deg above ambient according to my $1 thermistor ;) and which has great looks in my opinion. also since i do upgrade my pc a lot and have to test components on it (for pcs i sell to friends) it is very comfortable to work in and the drive bays are all easy to access - replacing an optical drive/ hdd is a matter of seconds

to sum it up:

my Case: Xaser 3 2000A (aluminum)

Great Looks (depends on personal tase)
Good airflow *only* after you replace stock fans and cut out fan grilles
Uncomfortable to lug around to lan parties
Side Fan door obstructs window
Hard to open (may be mine was defective?)
Weak fan controller
Comfortable to work with - excellent for people who change system spec often

hope this helps :)
