Do you really need 22 inches of space? Remember CRTs do not measure viewing space, but overall monitor space. So this guy only has about 20.5 inches of viewing area. Maybe you can consider a good quality 19 inch LCD monitor for $570-600. As a result you won't lose much of the viewing area, but you'll have all the advantages of versatility of an LCD.

Any suggestions on a good LCD with similar viewable area and price. I am open to suggestions, but to be honest I always thought CRTs were more dependable and hardy (I have two kids under 3).

That ViewSonic looks like a nice monitor.

I know what you're talking about little kids and monitors. While I would love to get my wife Dell 2005FPW LCD, our 2 year old daughter would destroy that LCD in days with her constant touching and poking of the screen with her hands. This is the main reason why my wife still uses old 21" Nokia CRT. We don't care if that old monitor gets abused. :)

I have a p225f and its awesome. way better than any lcd. I always find it amusing how people talk about "desktop space" as though it was a fatal disease. if you can get a 22" crt monitor i say go for it, you will not regret it.

agreed. I have a 220F and I wouldn't dream of replacing it with an lcd, unless that 9MP viewsonic dealie gets to around $1000 sometime soon.

nothing beat 2048x1536 of pure, unadulterated deskspace for $400 (cost of my 220F)

There's a very simple solution. When the kids get close to the monitor, whip them. They will learn to stay away. I would go with a 19" Samsung LCD in that price bracket.

I've got the NEC/Mitsubishi FE2111SB and I can tell you that it's definitely nice to have the 22" of space available. The only problem is that I my desk sucks and I'm forced to sit too close to the screen, but coming from a quality 17" LCD I can say that I'm MUCH happier with this CRT than with the LCD. I'd say that if you're not worried about desk space, go and get the CRT. You won't regret it :.
