Thoughts on this case

I found this case at new egg. Basiclly what I plan on doing is cutting a 12CM hole in the front for allow for much better air intake. I don't see how it will intake any air in it's current setup, but it does have a front fan hookup already.

I'm also going to cut 2 8cm holes on the side panel where the vents currently are. Top one with the air duct will be a intake, bottom one will be an exhaust.

Thoughts?

The bezel on my current case has crap right infront of the 2 fan holders(USB plugs and the power button) so I can't cut holes in that one to improve my air intake which is sadly lacking because the vents suck and I really don't feel like stripping this case and being without a computer for a few days or weeks 😛

120mm YLs are good, cheap & quiet. Use them for front, side, & top.

For the price, I couldn't fault anything about it. The layout reminds me of a PC-60.

Good luck with your build.

It's air intake is at the bottom of the bezel - perhaps done purposely to block some direct noise (or maybe not...). So you'll definitely want to keep it up off the floor a bit. It may still have a restrictive grille in front of the fan that would still need to be cut out - in case you just have to cut something.

Look at the new Rosewill R6A series (identical to the Antec SLK3000-B inside), a much better basic case than that one - and you can still cut the restrictive fan grills out. Some models are as low as $33. +sh. Any excuse to heat up the Dremel, eh? 😉

Check this link for more info on some selected Rosewill cases: the R6A series and the R560x series: Link to my Rosewill thread.

Reading reviews of the case they say the front isn't metal. From a quick glance at the picture it might look like the front in brushed aluminum. Apparently it's plastic. Due yourself a favor and get a nicer case. If this was $30 shipped then it might be an ok "attempt to mod and throw away" but with shipping it's nearly $45. 🙁

Check out this for only $5 more (before the rebate) After the rebate it's less $$.

Zepper, Some of the Rosewills look pretty nice. (The R6A and R560x) I'll have to remember them for future budget builds. Wish there was more competition like that for the QPack/UltraFly sizes. I'm still of the mind that standard ATX cases are just too big for sitting on a desk.

Mambo looks nice but I'd take an R6A over it for the rubber HDD isolators. And no futzing w/ rebates...

Agreed on the no futzing with rebates.

Those cases you linked look like a new bread of inexpensive cases that are going to give the expensive ones a good run for the money.

Only thing I wonder about them now is how they look in person. Some cases photograph well but look cheap in person. With the price... I'm sure I'll get someone to try them soon and I'll then know firsthand.

I'd skip that case and get a Lian Li PC7B or PC7. Much better deal and you won't have the need to mod it. Of course unless you want to like I did......

I have this case and it's a pretty decent case for the price. Air flow has been pretty good (I did do some cable management). I've added a couple of Rosewill 120 mm fan's a Freezer 64 Pro (I had to remove the air duct to get the Pro in) and I've been very pleased with the case. The only problem I have with the case is that the CD ROM drives do not sit flush with the front of the case.

I don't do mail in rebates from ZipZoom any more. I got screwed by them once before.
Plus that case has no vents in the front.
