I like the Antec SLK3700AMB due to the rubber shock absorbing Hard drive Mounts and the 120mm Exhaust fan. Mine runs really quiet with an Asus A7N8X and an AMD XP2800+.

It is a nice metalic Gray look. Has a shiny car style finish that you can see reflections in on the side. Very Sturdy, good Air Flow, Very Quiet.

Cooler master makes a nice one called the CM Stacker that is kind of a radical design. I go with functionality.

Personally, I'd blow any extra money on a awesome PSU and buy the cheapest fvcking case I could find with decent fan mounts.
I agree. I've had a cheap ass Enlight case for almost 4 years and it has been perfect for me. I don't plan to ever buy a case WITH a PS. I plan to get a decent inexpesive case, and a awesome PS on my next purchase.
Either way, get a cese that YOU like.

There's more to heat dissipation than just fans. Cheap cases without fail have tons of sharp edges that cut even the most careful DIYers on occasion. They're also generally far less ergonomic, comes into play when building, cleaning, or just working on the PC. I skimped on the case & psu when building my p3-550 a while back, and never will again. Lesson learned.

Just because a case is cheap, does not mean its those things. For instance, I know what you're talking about, because I've cut my hands open on plenty of old cases while trying to yank those 1980s holdover power connectors out. this is a case I have. A few simple mods and its just as good as any of those $60-100 cases out there IMO. Its light and roomy, has plenty of fan mounts, a removable motherboard tray and ALL edges are rounded to prevent bleeding all over things.

I've used many of the cheaper codegens newegg offers as well, and while they don't they don't offer as many fan mounts or a few of the nice things of that case...the recent ones have all had rounded edges, a couple standard fan mounts and a roomy inside. Plenty of a simple business box. My main complain with those was that they were heavy, and sort of ugly.

You don't have to blow a ton of money to get a decent case, it is just a metal box afterall.

I believe I have used cases by that manufacturer; in fact I've got a modded one for sale right now. 🙂
They are a bit on the flimsy side, but if you're not going to be standing on your computer anytime soon, it's not likely to be a problem. The edges were rounded, with a few small exceptions - I can say the same about my SLK3700 too though. Granted, you don't get a lot of the fancy things like drive rails and screwless panels, but you do get good functionality at a good price.
Assuming that those were Maxtop cases I've used, and those in the pictures at Newegg look familiar, they are definitely the best "cheap" cases I've seen. Very moddable too, should you wish to do any of that.

i own the aspire and my heatsink fan is louder than the case fans. i didnt find any sharp edges on the inside, the LED's are bright, and the temp' monitor on the front of the case is a big plus.

wow... cyberfuzz, I'm getting the same mobo as you..do you have the athlon xp or 64? but neways.. i'm gonna get the aspire x-dreamer and get an antec psu for it. Thanks for all your help. you all can still use this thread if you want, I'll still read it all 2 🙂

Yeah, it isn't super strong. But I think thats a tradeoff for it being rather light. And few people have load bearing cases so for most it shouldn't be a concern.

Personally, I hate drive rails and avoid them...because if I ever lose the extra rails things get ugly when I want to put another drive in. I've stolen some thumb screws from work for that case as well. 🙂 At its price point, its tough to beat for features.
