What I need the most is a fast, quiet, cool, reliable, and high-capacity IDE Hard Drive (I definitely don't need or want SCSI). I can get it for $125 shipped at Newegg.

Any other suggestions, warnings, experiences, etc.? :D

It's a great drive(fast), but if you want cool, you would need a 5,400rpm drive. If your only using it for storage, then I would just go with a 5,400rpm. Most 7,200rpm drives make a good deal of heat.

Come to think of it I really don't need that cool of a hard drive, I have case fans to take care of that.

What I really need is a fast and reliable HD. It's a nice bonus that this HD is high-capacity and supposedly nearly silent.

EDIT: Lol, then again those case fans will make noise, duh! Well, no big deal I guess, forget the extra case fans, it won't run all that hot I suppose. :D

Looks good to me. I have a 1200JB and am very happy with it. Those who know me know how I am about noise. The JB drives are very quiet. If they are quiet enough for me.....they are quiet. Seek noise is almost non existant. It makes less noise than my 60 Gig 60GXP did and less that a 60 Gig Maxtor with fluid bearings. It is also VERY fast. I'd get it.

I agree, my 1200JB is very quiet. A lot more quiet then the IBM 60gxp it replaced. I can barely hear the 1200jb and I have a very quiet system made up of pc power cooling silencer case fans, stock 1.6 fan, and enermax whisper 350watt power supply

AGodspeed -

I have both the WD 80GB "JB", and the Maxtor 80GB D740X "Fluid Bearing" model. The WD is faster than the Maxtor in everything but access time, and it is extremely quiet...much more so than the Maxtor, or the 60GXP's I have here. Here are some benches I performed on the WD...

Storage Review posted their reveiw on this drive (which I have).

It was the coolest drive they tested in the group:

800JB - 15.3C
1200JB - 17.1C
Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB - 19.3
IBM 120GXP 120GB - 19.8
WD 1200BB (120GB) - 20.0
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 80GB - 20.5

Only the Samsung Spinpoint and the Barracuda were quieter with a 44.5dB and 41.3dB respectively. The WD 800JB was 45.0dB.
