i would like $0,50 and up as bills $0,50; $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $1.000.000,

the smallest bill we have is $5 now. I feel like lead-man when walking around with change.

This seems like a bass-ackwards way of doing things... go heavier and bulkier ?

Coins last substantially longer than "paper" money, so it would save the government (and therefore you) money. $1 bills deteriorate the fastest and are the most common, so they would be the logical bills to switch. Would you rather have paper pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters? I think that would be as bulky as a few coins in my pocket.

We don't take any guff from a country that calls their dollar coin the "Loonie".

...or that call their $2 coin the "Toonie"....'cuz, you see it's like two Loonies...
A bit whimsical, but it's a logical name.

Anyway, the name of the dollar coin is based on the fact that there's a loon on the coin.

Eurocoins do suck, but the canadian ones are much better. They have 8 coins, we have only 6.

I have to general points to make:
1) You people must be very very weak. I mean complaining about carying around a few coins? jeez.
2) Inflation devalues money. Carying a $1 bill today is like carying a $0.25 bill back in 1950. What about 20 yearrs from now when the dollar will be even more worthless?

I would hate that, they do that in europe with the Euro, the lowest paper bill is a 5 so you carry dollar and 2 dollar coin it gets so confusing.

Circulating U.S. money should return to coins that have intrinsic value; i.e. with 90% silver content (as were pre-1965 dimes, quarters, halves & dollars). And return to a gold backing for paper currency.
If the dollar coin again had 90% silver, then phasing out the paper $1 dollar would be O.K. Just print more $2 bills instead.

if we stop printing paper currency and go to all coin currency (or most coin currency) i think it would be a terrible idea

many people in this country under the age of 20 cant even read an analog clock (the one with hands)... throw in a coin that looks like the others and we have massive problems
all bills are the same color and size. you cant even say that about coins, so i dont really think this is a valid point.

I've spent more time in Canada than most Americans. I've heard many canadians say nearly the exact same statement as that.

My response to them is, "are you that damned retarded that you need color coded bills".

the weight would be a killer.

I have $200 in my wallet right now... I couldn't imagine carrying that in change (and it's not as if the euro is 100% change)

Let me just say that Strip Clubs are more intersting with Toonies.

And that it's nice when they can easily tell you've ponied up a fiver.

The biggest obstacle to switching exclusively to a dollar coin is this:

One company provides all the paper to the BEP for US paper money. 50% of the production is $1 bills. That company is based in Ted Kennedy's state.

The conclusion is left as an exercise for the reader. ;)

then allow me to ask - what's cheaper? paper or copper/bronze or whatever those coins are made of? i'd suppose that we'd be inclined to say paper.
