Thoughts on possible build?

CPU: Intel 660 @ 3.6GHZ probobly planning to overclock at least a bit. "I know it's an intel"
GPU: XFX 7900GTX @ 665MHZ
RAM: 2GB of Corsair Value Select RAM
HDD: 400GB Seagate HDD
Sound Card: Turtle Beach Sound Card I had left over from a previous computer
PSU: Fortron 450
Mobo: idk yet, an overclockable non-sli mobo, any recommendations?
Case: Cooler Master Ammo
OS: Windows XP home edition

Is that CPU too slow for a video card like that?

Who cares about the brand as long as the purchase is a good buy. If you want the cheapest dual core, get the Intel. It offers decent gaming performance. Nice for other tasks. AMD is a bit more expensive.

That is a nice system but I do agree that you should go dual-core. Either Intel or AMD, depending on your preferences and the best buy.

As for the motherboard, I would recommend the Epox 9NPA Ultra. It comes with loads of accessories, very stable, very fast and highly overclockable. Just check out the Anandtech review of it.

I don't know why you're spending all that money and only getting a single core or intel. If you're going to go single core, may as well go AMD and get better performance... or go duo core intel. Get the 930 and you can break 4ghz on air alone.

Thanks, I forgot to mention the reason I picked the single core P4 was because their prices are about to drop a lot, when they do I was planning to get one, but would it be worth it to drop more on a 930?
Edit: I never saw how cheap the 930 has become, I'll definatly look into getting one, will I need a good cooler to overclock this thing a lot?

That mother board is AMD though and I've found that the X2s are a lot more expensive than the intel dual cores. Will X2 prices drop soon?

Well, i don't have the 930, but i've read of many expereinces where people broke 4ghz on using the stock cooler. I don't know what it actually looks like, so maybe get an OEM CPU and pick up a good aftermarket HSF.

CPU: Duel core X2 will last longer, I would really recommend one for the life of your system, and gaming in mind.
GPU: Switch to eVGA
RAM: Patriot and OCZ have the best 2x 1GB kits for the money, check newegg.
Mobo: I recommend epox and MSI for budget builds, just get one that has the features your looking for.
Case: Cooler Master has good value cases, good choise.
OS: See if Pro has features you need/want, if not, then home is fine.

If you get a X2 and spend a little bit more, it would really match up with the 7900GTX well. Or you could go AM2, and get a AM2 board, with a 4000+ (or less, I forget what is offered now) M2 processor, leaving you lots of upgrade room.

I really like eVGA, I use one of their cards now and I'm very satisfied with it, but I heard that the 7900GTX that they make isn't great, its clocks are too high for its own good apparently, XFX was my second choice last time and it looks like their the company to buy a video card from next.
As for the CPU, there is no comparison in price between the X2 and the Pentium D cpus, I don't need it to last for more than 2 years, so if I can get 2 years out of this system I'll be happy. I do like the new M2 technology, but it's just too expensive and I've used intel since before they had the Pentium processor so my choice might be a little biased.

I don't know much about the seperate video card brands, except eVGA is usually one of the best. Whatever you choose is your own business. I really think going M2 will extend the life of your system, and probably double it (if you upgrade your CPU to something like the X2 5000+ in a couple years).

Epox will be a good board for OCing and doesn't cost a fortune. I would go with SLI mobo because there is no price premium on Intel SLI boards, and it gives you more options for upgrading.
Go with DDR2-800 instead of DDR2-667 if you are overclocking.

I think I'm going to take another option, I'm going to build most of the system except the video cards this summer then wait for the 8 series to come out so I can have a direct X 10 card, I'll use integrated video for the time in between, sound like a good idea, and I do like the idea of an SLI mobo.

Such a waste of money, to buy a Zalman cooler. A Scythe Ninja is one of the best values around for overclocking, and beats out all other coolers on the market in performance, except for the TT.
