a bunch of my coworkers have been trying out P90x for weight loss/build muscle. One guy started 80 days ago and has seen some serious results (230lbs to 185lbs and about 32% body fat to about 22% now)

what do the experts on here think of this?

It's an amazing plan if you stick with it and follow the diet. The diet is key to the overall transformation of your body to see the gains that are advertised. The first month will seriously kick your ass and you will feel like you will have the flu with how sore your body will be.

I think it's dominantly for looks. If you want to train for strength or endurance specifically, it's not a great plan. However, if you wanna lose weight and look better naked, then it's an easy plan - you just have to make sure you follow it.

I made a thread (and of course others before me) recently.

I have no doubt it does work if you stick to it. But sticking to it is the catch, as it ALWAYS is with diet/exercise regimens. The thing is no joke. Especially if you're not in great shape I imagine some of the workouts would kick your ass hard at the beginning. An unfit person would be broken in two by the plyometrics workout, they literally would not be able to do it properly without limping through most of it.

For health this is what's easier, STOP EATING CARBS. JUST STOP IT

Then, modest run in the morning 1.5-2 miles 15 mins, 3 times a week. 50 pushups 100 situps. DONE.

Once you reach 8-10% body fat, you can put carbs back in.

It takes MAJOR commitment for 90mins of workout a day. Most RUE every moment until they give up all together. Which is why I really wouldn't bother with p90x. Tried it for fun with "big dude' friend, it was NOT fun, that guy in the video is very obnoxious.

I suggest counting calories rather than cutting a macronutrient out. Eating fruits, veggies, beans, milk, brown rice, quinoa will always make someone healthier. And it's easy to lose weight if you consume enough fiber and sufficient fat and protein in your diet. Carbs are part of a balanced diet. If you cut them out, you tend to cut out good nutrition (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc). I say leave them in and be healthier overall.

I agree, it's a big deal. I would be surprised if even 10% of people who start P90X finish it in its majority, honestly. I think you can get a decent taste for its intensity by, say, going to a spin class with one of your gym's more intense instructors. And then doing that six days/week for three months, it really does take a dedication.

I don't find Tony Horton that difficult, though. Cocky a bit but it's not too bad.

I just started it last week with my wife. Tony Horton can get a little annoying but I find myself laughing at him or cursing at the tv.

Even before P90X I was going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week and still try to go 2 or 3 times a week. There are certain stretching exercise I am cheating on, the yoga (except for the balance exercises) is beyond boring and I can't make myself do it for the full 90 minutes.
