Thoughts on my build?

Hi guys,
I've got the summer off and that means I need a new computer. Right now I'm upgrading from a 5 year old thinkpad, so i think it's time. Anyways, I'll probably do a mix of things on it.. moderate gaming, encoding, software development, tv streaming (/w a cable card). I don't need to overclock. While I understand that the core 2 duo is slightly better for gaming, I think the quad core will be of benefit if I want to encode/record something while doing other tasks. I know computers, but probably not to the specifics that you guys do, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'd really don't want to pay more than I am, but if a small amount of money here and there will go a long way then I'm a little flexible. If there are cheaper alternatives that offer the same performance I'm open as well, though.

On a side note, I'm really thinking about about getting an SSD to boot off of, although I hear the OCZ Vertex is the only way to go, and it's a little out of my price point.. any thoughts on SSD's?

Anyways thanks for the help, and here's my build. (PS. I'm Canadian)

DSF- I'm still looking at a suitable monitor. I wouldn't mind a 22-24' widescreen. Still exploring options, so i'll take recommendations.

FINEST- Isn't the processor you gave the same one I'm looking at? Please note, my prices are in Canadian.

Animal- Thanks, I'll do that.

Thanks for the help guys! Anything else?

Oh, well if you were in US, microcenter had a deal on the 8200. But yeah, i hate my 7x multiplier, but your mobo can do fine.

Cool, there's a $15 rebate on the 4870, so it's only $10 more. I'll look at some benchmarks.

Also, would be able to compare these two hard drives?

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/P...nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA
$99

Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM
http://www.ncix.com/products/i...ital%20WD&promoid=1060
$133.99

Which one would you go with? I think the WD is marginally faster, but is it worth the extra $33?

Ganesh- sorry, I'm Canadian.

Thanks again for the help guys

If you are a slow upgrader as in infrequently, i'd suggest a Gigabyte board like the UD3R or P

Alot more stable at high fsb with a quad than any other board out there and its reasonably priced!!!

Well the closest contender to the 250gtx in the mid range area is the 4850 hd.
This shows that the 250gtx is better than 4850 in many scenarios and its better than the 4870 in some scenarios( sometimes, Which doesnt create much difference, 4870 is still better).

So 250 gtx is even cheaper than 4850 here in India. So you can be confident purchasing the card.

Ohh. You forgot CPU cooler.( Don't tell me your not ocing ...) get a xigmatek(s1285or s1283 or s1245487878... forgot the number) and the monitor...

SSD's ... Well people are getting 60gb ones and loading os and most important apps/games into it which they use on regular basis. There is undeniably a performance difference in the software that are installed into the ssd.(dont know by how much difference).A little info on ssd

Well a lot of people are getting the p182... Dunno what makes them so special. Personnally i would get a 900 series cabinet. But it seems to have some gun metal and stuff. So that might be holding the rate up.

That link was for a 2gb GTS 250. A 512mb GTS 250 = 512mb 9800GTX. A 4850 is usually better at 1680 and above, and a 4870 is usually much better.
