Thoughts on Mozilla Sunbird .2

So last week the wife and I decided that I would take over the bills. Her plate was too full with her job, the kids (especially our bipolar son), and some personal issues that she's dealing with. In order to help me keep tabs on when to send out payments I thought I'd use a calendar program. At work we use Corporate Time (previously we used NS Calendar) and something just like that would work for me.

So last night I downloaded and installed Mozilla Sunbird. So far I like it. I haven't gone through and set up events yet but the interface is as clean as Thunderbird (which is a definite plus). It seems to be pretty intuitive also.

Now for the point of this thread: has anyone else here used Sunbird for any length of time? If so, do you have any tips or can you point out any significant shortcomings? If this app is too immature for primetime I'd like to know before I "wasted" too much time trying to integrate it into my life. And if Sunbird is not appropriate for the task perhaps someone could link me to a better alternative?

Thanks one and all for any input.

I was waiting for further development before I started using it more.

If you just want a standard calendar program, Sunbird will work fine. But Quicken and MS Money are both very good financial software, and will do A LOT that Sunbird cannot.

I have a copy of MS Money 2005 on the way now. I didn't know that it contained a calendar application. I'll check it out before I commit to Sunbird I guess. Thanks for the info.

i've been using it for awhile now, if only half-heartedly. its a very nice program, just doesn't feel as polished (it being in 0.2 release and all) as other calendars. It has a while to go before catching up with the features that MS Outlook has. That said, I'm not a very demanding calendar user, so it works well for me. Also I love the fact you can share the calendar via a WebDAV folder online. :)

What you guys have to look forward to is hula server

That is, if your interested in stuff like that.

It's a webmail and calendering server. It's pretty immature right now, but it's developing. It's linux/free/open source type stuff. Like sunbird and mozilla and all that.

They are working on creating a protocol for standardized calendering and such and if you have a desire to setup something like this it may be fun. The idea is to get sunbird and Evolution (Linux Outlook type thing, they are porting that to windows, too) working with it. If you have a small business, or you have to quoridinate with your extended family and such.

It won't be just webmail either, it eventually will be able to work with most email clients.

Just a FYI.

Thanks Relayer and drag. I'll check out those alternatives. I had no idea that there'd be so many options out there for this. :)
