Thoughts on large phone.

Hey guys I know this topic has probably popped up a few times since the original note was released. However, I noticed that in the past few years the industry and people in general have become more embracing of the "phablet". With that said and since I'm considering a larger phone I'd like some input on some of your experiences regarding a larger phone. For example, do you find it hard to sit with the phone in your pocket? Do you take it out everytime you sit? Thanks!
 
im 5ft 7, 160lbs. i had the nexus 7 in my front pocket jean and it fits fine, no discomfort.
phones are getting bigger because people are no longer using it for voice. fb, youtube, emails, maps, and photos look so much better on a bigger screen. took apple 3 years to realize that.
 
Seating is only a (still minor when talking about phablets) issue when my thighs are beyond parallel point and the only place that ever happens is with some car seats. In my own car I'm just going to mount the phone before I go anyway.

One handed use...my hands are not big but I can reach the top of the screen on a Galaxy Mega (6.3" panel) with pinky below the phone to pull the notification shade and that's good enough for me; typing with one thumb is so damn slow that I avoid doing it even on smaller phones anyway.

Not if you're doing swipe style typing, then that one thumb is plenty fast.
 
Depends on what you feel is a large phone. Anything over 5.5" to me is too large for my tastes. I don't wear girl tight pants so I have no problem even fitting NY Nexus 7 in my pants.
 
I have no issues with my Note 3. I am 6ft 2in, 210 lbs. I wear regular old Levi 501 jeans and corduroy pants. No problem with pocketability and sitting.
 
I'm currently using the S5, but I did find the dimensions of the S4 felt better in the hand/more comfortable for one handed use. The Note series and other 5.5"+ phones are too big in my opinion. It's all personal preference in the end so there's no right answer -- pros/cons to everything. I do find that a ~5"+ smartphone just does not fit certain settings however. For example, I had no problem bringing my iPhone 4 to the gym.
 
I have currently owned my Note 3 for almost a year now and so far I have had little to no issue with its size. Just to put it more into perspective I have it in a Fliptronics wallet case, which increases it's thickness more than double. I wear a wide variety of pants: Wranglers, Levis, Dickies (Kakies), as well as Fire Resistant and Electrical Hazard clothing.

When I was first looking to replace my old Pantec Burst I was very skeptical about a larger phone but everyone I knew had the S5 and I wanted to be somewhat different. I took the gamble with a larger phone a opted for the Note 3. I haven't looked back since.
 
If making phone calls is all you really care about in a phone, why even bother with a smart phone at all? There are plenty of very compact phones on the market that are great for just making phone calls.

The reason to even own a smart phone is because of the extra functionality of the phone. Photos, web surfing, games, video, and what not all are done better on a nice smart phone with a decent size screen. The smaller screen makes those functional requirements of a smart phone harder to do. It just isn't done well on a small screen. Still, part of the reason of having a cell phone is portability. Although people were able to port around the original Motorola brick phone just fine back in the 80s. Even the biggest phablet is smaller than that monster. 4.5 to 6 inch screen is about the sweet spot for phones. Smaller screens than that just too small and bigger, while always nice for the other functions, just starts to become a tad bit too cumbersome to tote around by getting into that realm of motorola brick phone size almost.
 
I have yet to see someone with a smartphone who EVER puts it in a pocket. There may be some who don't take it out and constantly play with it but, I don't notice them.
 
I'm not being facetious, the only people having issues with a large phone in the pants are people with skinny jeans. Most new large phones, especially the Note, are incredibly thin. I can't image anyone else having a problem.

If you have small hands and dead set on one-handed typing, you could have an issue. I'm a bigger guy, but I just adjusted to two hands and Swype. (I have a Note 3) The trade-off was the easiest choice I have ever made. For anyone who watches at least a moderate amount of video, play games, or uses navigation frequently, a big screen will be the best thing you ever did.

I could never go back to anything smaller than a Note.
 
I find a neoprene case attached to my belt to be always ready, comfortable, and safe.
 
I like using a phone one-handed sometimes, so optimal for me is less than 5.3 inches.

With that said, my wife's Note 4's one handed mode is neat.
 
I hate the larger phones, my Ggalaxy S5 is probably the largest I'll ever buy. My GF's Galaxy S4 is a better size, as was my old Droid DNA.

I don't know what kid of jeans you guys are wearing that allows a nexus 7 to fit in the pockets. Maybe those JNCO jeans from like 2nd grade? Even the S5 is uncomfortable in some of my normal straight fit jeans.

What jeans do you wear with front pockets large enough to even fit a nexus 7, much less sit comfortably? I call shens...or you rock your jeans like Kriss Kross.

I can fit my Nexus 7 in my jeans. Been doing it all week as I broke my S4.

My pocket isn't my limit, my hand is. Sometimes I want to look up/check/etc. something while using my other hand.
 
I have the HTC One S currently and I have a Nexus 7. My original plan was to use the Nexus 7 on the daily commute to consume media since the HOS screen was too small for video and reading but Ok for Facebook, checking mail, snapping pics and taking quick vids. It turns out I'm too lazy to carry anything with me in addition to my phone.

My new plan is to get a OnePlus One to consume media and do everything in one device. The 5.5" screen should be fine for that.
 
I actually find thickness to be more annoying, because thickness means that the phone is pressing against your thigh while in your pocket. Thin phones just slip right into the jeans.
