thoughts on hiring a non-licensed contractor for windows and kitchen?

I know, the initial reaction is 'hell no' but our neighbors across just sold their house and the new homeowners are renovating the place. They're gutting the whole house out and doing everything new.

I figure if the new owners are willing to let them do their whole house, they should be able to do our windows and kitchen. I got a quote from them and their naturally cheaper than other quotes I've received. I was going to wait till they finish the house and check out some of their work before committing. I'm going to talk to the owners as well to see where they found these guys, but he's not around much.

thoughts?

If they do good work, go for it! Just make sure you have a decent contract with them, my dad's family is in a huge legal battle with some contractors right now.

I don't know why they're not licensed. I'm going to see how well the contract covers warranty ... yeah, liability is probably the biggest issue. :(

your initial reasoning for using this guy is fallacious.
i would not use a non-licensed contractor. that just seems like youre asking for trouble.
