Thoughts on Chevy Cruze vs. 2012 Ford Focus?

What is your average around town mileage?
How does the interior feel - as in do you think it will fair fine with age or decline quickly?

I'd say low 30s probably in town? HAven't tested that all that extensively to be honest with you.

Interior feels nice. The seats are surprisingly comfortable (moreso than my Dodge Avenger's were for sure). The plastic panels don't feel cheap. Things are laid out nicely. Hard to complain really.

I also picked up a Cruze Eco 6MT a few weeks ago and really like it. The 6 speed is really smooth shifting and the clutch is nice and light. I just passed 630 miles today and my AVERAGE mpg right now is 41.7. The Eco only has a 12.6 gal gas tank but you can get 450 miles out of it without a problem. If the reliability of this car is decent I think Chevy is going to surprise some people.

This is why the Volt makes no economic sense.

I had a rental cruze this week from Enterprise. I logged about 220 miles in the thing and came away pretty impressed. The interior is pretty cushy for a car like that, seats were a little more comfy than my Jettas, which is saying something good. Overall ride was pretty soft, but thats to be expected.

Plastics seemed on par to that VW uses, mine had about 6k miles on it with no real signs of wear other than the obvious miscare (scuffing on kick panels). Should hold up pretty well.

My Cobalts plastic held up fine, too bad the rest of the car didnt.

Exactly my same observation. I had previously drove the turbo and was pretty impressed, but I got a rental 2 weeks back. For a low-trim rental, it was a very nice compact car. It was still a little 'cushy' but drove WAY better than a rental Corolla. The seats adjusted nicely, and the road noise was very low. It felt like a nice full-size car 'downsized' (in a good way). For the price and MPGs, it was a great little car.

Is that 41.7mpg all highway or a combination of highway and city?

Up north the official gas mileage ratings for this car are incredible. gm canada. 1.4L eco manual = 61mpg imperial (50.8mpg US).

I never look at Canadian ratings anymore they are useless
the US fuel economy.gov has adjusted and is a much more realistic approximation of fuel economy especially using their calculator has mirrored my existing vehicles. Except for winter driving drops another 10%

My cars have consistently met the canadian ratings. They say a Corolla and Civic should each get about 50mpg imperial on the highway, and that's exactly what those cars get. They also said both of those cars should get about 37mpg imperial in the city, and that's exactly what they get. I even posted a picture of it in that thread I made after my transmission was fixed under warranty.

The new transmission works great so far. Gas mileage is back up to where it should be and the whole car feels a lot better. Here is a pic of gas mileage after test driving it around town for an hour:

7.3L/100km is 38.7mpg imperial, which is actually slighter higher than the canadian rating.
Just remember to disengage the parking brake and you'll hit the official rating every time :thumbsup:


It's nice to have both systems around. One is if you drive the speed limit (like I do). The other is if you drive like my dad (way the fuck too fast and stopping short).

test drove a cruze this weekend. I was impressed by how much better it was than the Cobalt it replaces. The seats were not designed for me though (seemed to press into my sides). Also, with the seat all the way back, there was only about 2 inches between the back of the front seat and the rear seat.

I drive the Civic, Cruze, and got to sit in an Elantra. That was enough for me to decide to move up a size class.

I drive 36 miles one way to work (in Chicago) which means even highway driving has it's share of stop and go traffic. Anyway, approx. 25 miles is hwy and 11 is city. I don't see 50 mpg being a problem at all with all hwy driving.

In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the car maker said it traced the problem with that particular car to a case in which the wrong wheel was put in a car and replaced later in the assembly process with the correct one. But the new wheel wasn’t attached properly, the car maker says.

So, not a major defect just a factory slip-up on one car . . . .
