I'm looking for a masters in CE most likely. I'm a Junior in HS now and I'm studying IT stuff in my own time. I'm not familiar enough with where I can go in the market to say what I want. I guess with a Masters in CE I can probably move up in management pretty well.

Getting to the point, is/was anybody here at Berkeley? Got anything to say about it good or bad? How hard is it to get in? It's my top choice of school's because it's a great education, big-name, and great scenery to top it all off.

Chris

btw i just looked at USNews, they rated CIT 1st in nation overall, MIT best Eng., Berkeley 2nd Eng.)

If you wanna get a CS in Berkeley, it might be a better choice.

Oh come on, the smelly people are concentrated only in a small part of Berkeley, and if you are an Engineering/physical science major, you probably won't have to live with those bums on the streets. :p

Anyways, I think Berkeley has always been top 3 in the nation in EECS(eletrical eng. & comp. sci.), so it's definitely a great program here. On the other hand, it's quite competitive, so you better be prepare to do some work. Overall, it's a great school, great place to be, great weather...oh yeah, and expensive rents. ;) :Q

Go Bears!

Dear god, I went to school at Berkeley for two years and I hated every day of my life there. It is easy the filthiest city I have ever lived in. Anyways, if you decide to do EECS or CS there, prepare to go against ALOT of competition.

Don't get drunk on the smell of somebody else's cork. You might love Berkeley, or hate it. Every where I go I'm me. If you graduate from there with some kind of computer degree, I bet you'll like your salary. Follow your own lights.

Ah how my heart sighs thinking of a beutiful cow-eyed girl under a fall golden Ginko Biloba along the path leading down from the paleontology building to the main campus. Its only a memory, but....

Question: Is Berkeley better than CMU or is it the other way around?

I'm looking into this stuff too...

I usually don't post in Off Topic because many of the people here are somewhat frightening, however I must respond to some of the unwashed masses denigrating my Alma Mater's good name....<<Sniff>>

First issue, if you are not from California, "getting in" is a big if.

Second, Berkeley is perhaps the largest premier educational institution in America. Some view the size as a disadvantage and I don't disagree. If you can get in Berkeley from out-of-state, you can probably get into some of the lesser Ivy League type schools if Dad has the $$$.

Third, if you would choose a school based on what you glean from Anand's "Off-Topic" board I doubt you will be accepted. :)

Good luck! GO Bears!

I'm a Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science junior at Berkeley... there are tons of people and it's hard to get to know anybody. Housing is a nightmare too ;)

The classes are very challenging. I don't think I could be working much harder than I am/have been.

Can't wait to graduate.

If you can deal with would-be hippies, professional protestors, rebels without a clue, and liberal hypocrites then I'd definitely say come to Berkeley.
