That sucks that the 505 only does audio passthrough, unlike the 605, 705, etc. It's stupid of Onkyo to cripple a receiver like that.

only difference is that my rca jack on the end, is a single, not a double connector
I wonder why. Is it because everybody prefers cheap, cheap, cheap. It shows everywhere that people care to buy cheap instead of invest their time and money to buy quality products. Buying cheap hurts people more than it hurts the wallet.Every company has it's own way of shaving costs.
That cable is not correct because on-board sound cards have jack sensing, so it will output analog audio for subwoofer and center channel. Get the adapter that I suggested earlier. You will then need 75-ohm cable with RCA plugs.

Not any more.Most receivers under a certain price point are just hdmi switches. Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, and HK all have entry-level receivers that don't pull audio.
