We test drove the Civic EX and Fit S today. Overall I liked the Civic the best of cars we've been contemplating. It is quiet, has good pickup, and is comfortable. The seats were the most comfortable of the cars we test drove (Fit, Corolla, Yaris). With the extremely large, very long windshield the Civic AC had trouble keeping up with the Tucson sun. The EX is loaded with creature comforts.
The Fit is the quintessential CLC (crappy little car). It is noisy and bumpy (though smoother and quieter than the Yaris). Smaller rims with thicker tires would do it a world of good, as come with the non-S model. The fold flat back seats were a selling point as we like to cart junk around hither and yon. I tried out the paddle shifters but a test drive isn't long enough to get a sense for them. The car has good pickup and is nimble, more reminiscent of eighties' econoboxes than the more pimped cars we tend to see today.
The bottom line ended up being the bottom line. With all taxes and fees tacked on the Fit S came in $4100 cheaper than the Civic EX so we are getting the Fit S.
