Thought I ate peanut butter tainted with salmonella last night

So last night shortly after eating some peanut butter sandwiches I got hit with one of the worst stomache cramps in my life. First thought that came into my head was "salmonella" and "I'm fvcked". I must of been in the bathroom for almost an hour before everything subsided. After I got out I went straight to the kitchen and tossed the jar of peanut butter.

I doubt it was the peanut butter that caused the cramping, especially if you thought it was something like a bacteria - not enough time passed for the bacteria to have any effect.

That's all I had that whole day.

Isn't it the toxins that bacteria produce within the peanut butter that makes people sick?
Salmonella takes about 12 hours to cause symptoms (according to CDC).

If it was immediately after eating peanut butter, it was probably some other contaminant in the peanut butter, or perhaps it was something else entirely (something you ate previous day, it can take up to 72 hours for symptoms to show).

You're not supposed to eat peanut butter off your dog's nuts. You do it the other way around. Serves you right. /thread

So you're blaming peanut butter on stomach cramps when you didn't eat the entire day? That sounds, COMPLETELY logical to me. 😛 Read up on the CDC's website about affected products and the time it takes for symptoms to hit.

It was either something digested the previous day, or simply an adverse reaction to being given peanut butter.

The stomach can act very funny. You can eat the same product all the time, but one day you eat it, or shift your diet a little, and boom you're in the bathroom all day.

Salmonella won't hit immediately, and most commonly not even the same day. 12-24 hours is the typical period for onset of first symptoms.

Sounds like your stomach just wasn't all that enthused about being given nothing all day besides just peanut butter.

Take any pain pills or any kind of pills? Sometimes a pill with a specific type of food, or a pill on an empty stomach, can give you the runs.
