All -

So for the past week I have been working from home and I find I have a lot of trouble concentrating on one task. I am 26 and have flirted with the idea in the past that I have some sort of ADHD however have never done anythign about it.

I am sitting here perfectly alert, but with a slight feeling of anxiousness.

Is that how you all feel?

You are in an environment where there are too many distractions from work and no real check system to keep you from slacking. You don't have ADHD.

I thought I had adhd, and went to my doc who prescribed a host of things throughout a ~6 month period - I ended up with adderall, but I only take it once or *maybe* twice a week.

Overall, I think I have an issue with concentration, but it's not worth the ridiculous meds to fix it..

edit: also, I'm 22.

Ritalin worked well, but randomly would make me REALLY depressed...
Concerta seemed to work well, with no depressed days, but lasted too long and kept me from sleeping.
Strattera worked awesome - I could sleep, concentration was always excellent, but made me feel 'different'... hard to explain, but the problem with strattera is that you can't just "not" take it for a day.

Adderall worked the best of all, but imo affects my personality too much. Also, when it wears off I'm VERY moody. Also cuts your appetite (can be good or bad..) The worst part is that it drastically affects my sex drive.. I can't get it up if I take it in the morning... This is why I only take it every now and then. Also, it really lowers your creativity. It's great for completing mindless tasks, but that's about it.

That post makes me never want to take any kind of medication ever again.

I don't have ADD, but I went to the Dr a month ago because I was under a lot of stress and thought I might be depressed. I was apathetic and just really not motivated to anything I didn't have to. He put me on Adderal for some reason, thinking my probs might be from ADD (I guess my unfinished projects were an indicator). Believe it or not I am more motivated now, but its hard to sit down for long when your on speed :p . It sucks when it wears off, and it makes me moody when it does. I also have to force myself to eat when I take it because I have NO appetite til it wears off. I can see how this stuff works for those with ADD, hell I don't have ADD and it made me more productive.

OT EDIT: Hey zixxer, how did that speeding ticket work out. Did they toss it in court?

Does one ever WANT to take meds? ****** I hate stuff like this so much that I try to avoid other such things like coffee and only take prescriptions only when they're necessary. Most of the time you can get over an illness with out meds, don't want to be perpetrating the problem of immune bacteria...

The whole scam behind ADD and ADHD is to turn intellegent children into mindless drones. The system belives if they can think for themself they are dangerous.

I know this first hand the dangers of ADD drugs. In the 8th grade they labled me ADD, and put me on ritalin. About 3 weeks later they took me off the drug and drop the entire thing, because while on the drug I had massive mood swings and became violent very quickly, which I never had a history of doing.
Some dangerous stuff them ADD drugs.

Oh for those with ADHD, ask your self why are you taking a stimulant to calm you down? You should be popping downers, not upper.
