Those with a 9-5 and a second job, what is it?

Need to bring in some extra dough and I've got a pretty easy M-F 9-5.

I'm thinking about 20 hours a week, at LEAST $10 an hour to make it worth it. Only thing I can think of is Kinko's or Good Guys (like a circuit city). I have not waiting experience so I can't do that.

Man waiting tables can be good $$$ I live in a tourist town but some of the women I know that wait tables make like $150-$200 a day... mabey some thing to think about.. or you could do expermental drugs they tend to pay good and who cares if all you hair falls out.... LOL

retail will just add very irritable stress to your life. the job is usually easy enough, but the managers are almost always horrible! in the last 5 years that I've worked retail during my teen years, I've only ever had one manager who I think was good. She had everything organized, and she cared about her employees, and was honest with you, the rest are some of the laziest and most selfish people I've ever met.

see if you can take a bartending class (they tend to be ballpark 250$ for a one or two week course at nights), learn the basics, and get a night job at a local esablishment. Only problem is if you close late, you might be there til 3am.

I've had plenty of retail experience.. made some good dough working at good guys.. I don't mind it either since it's easy work and you get to talk to/meet people. I'd love to wait tables but I doubt any restaurant would hire me with 0 experience directly to waiter. Probably have to start out busboy 🙁

collect cans. that way you can enjoy the city while youre at it 🙂

 And good for the environment!

how much can that bring in? I live in a suburb so not many cans lying around =/ I remember we dropped off 2 HUGE bags of can/bottles at the local recyclery and only got $20 for it.

you could also try catering. requires very little experience, just being friendly and picking up after people/ serving them, and is usually on fridays, sat, and sun. I always worked weddings where its very low stress, everyone is happy and you usually get some free food/drinks. Would make at least 100 bucks every saturday working a party.

Retail don't pay crap and hours stink. Not to mention the stress.

Waiting tables or bartending is good but you got to know what you're doing.

great idea! My current job is high level tech support... every day would be one long nightmare 😛 But I'm sure it would pay very well.

Do you know where I could look for a job like this? Craiglist or do they usually advertise in the paper? I'm in the bay area.

probably not that much, unless you live in a really populated city. and even that you will probably have to fight bums for the cans. so id say overall as a 2nd job its not worth it 🙂 but if you want to just enjoy a day outside you might wanna think bout it?

I got mine out of the classified ads in the paper, just called a few companies. Most of them put you on a sort of "list" and will call you a week or two ahead of time and ask if you can work X date and time. Its pretty nice and you can always turn down a day if you dont want to, so theres alot of flexibility, plus, you can be on a couple companies' lists. With the summer coming up, there will be lots of demand, especially on the weekends and sometimes on weekdays.
