I've gotten quite fond of listening to audiobooks while I'm working out, and I was surprised to realize that I was listening to Adrian Paul for several of the stories in George R.R. Martin's "Dreamsongs - Volume 1". It got me thinking about all the other people I know from movies and television who I've recognized. I have Ethan Hawke doing Slaughterhouse 5, and Paul Giamatti doing something else, as well as a couple of others I can't remember. I've never heard mention of these guys doing audiobooks, and I never pay attention to the actors when I buy them, so it's always a shock when I recognize a voice.

/random useless thought

Same thing goes for documentaries. Recently I had the History Channel on and was surprised to hear Worf doing the documentary. Having never seen or heard Michael Dorn in any capacity at all outside of Star Trek, that was weird.

And commercials. If not John Goodman, then a guy who sounds exactly like him was doing commercials for Dunkin Donuts recently. Same with John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) and Blackberry (or some other phone).

Check out the audiobook for World War Z. Lots of famous voices on that one.

I <3 audio books. I listen to them while driving to work every day. I would much rather start out my day stimulating my mind rather than listening to some idiot on the radio.

Actors are often known for their distinctive voices, and make money on the side doing commercials, audio books, documentaries, etc.
