Have any of you played with the memory clocks with any performance boost?

You can gain a little bit by messing with the timings but generally not enough to worry about. There is a post over at Xtremesystems.org on X850XT timings. I tried the settings suggested there on my old card and it gained me ~50-75 points in 3DMark05. I couldn't oc the memory quite as high but the tighter timings more than made up for it.

It's just that my X800XL isn't very overclockable and I wanted to see if I could could give it a little nudge. =p

If you're thinking about tweaking the GPU Memory's latencies (such as TRAS, CAS and ect, but on the GPU Memory itself), then, be very careful. In fact, and only IF you were thinking about that, then I'd highly suggest you not to tweak anything about it. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, and the risks of such GPU Memory latency tweaking.

I've read a very horrible story about that.

Can't you do a vmod on the XL? From what I understand, the reason they don't OC that well is because they run on a lower voltage, and on techpowerup they have a guide on vmodding x800/x850 boards that you can do with as little as a pencil. In fact I was thinking about doing that on my card.
