The real cleverness of the commercials is that they don't name anything other than a nebulous concept called "PC". If they took a direct shot at MS or Windows MS could counter advertise.

I always laugh when I go to CompUSA and they have that little corner of the store in the back for the Mac stuff. I never go in just walk by as all the Mac nerds circle jerk to their new mouse that has more than one big ass button.

Here's what I got from that Mac vs Vista commercial.

- Windows might require you to change out some system components and check on software compatibility to upgrade to Vista.
- Apple will just require you to buy a whole new computer.

I'm a bigger fan of not draining my bank account.

Don't worry Red... If you buy your PC from Dell or HP, you're probably going to end up getting Windows Vista whether you want it or not. Even when build your own PC's, you'll eventually have to upgrade to Vista in a few years when a game or application requires it.

This is what I'm wondering! People got just as pissed off about the Ford Fusion commercial that says it's better than Camry and Accord (imagine that, a commercial that says you're better than the competition). So I really think it's more about people hating the product than hating the commercials. Doesn't matter if it's Think Different or the Mac guy, people would hate them.

Heh... several of my CS professors couldn't even touch-type. 😱 They knew their stuff and all, but I don't know how you could get buy as a programmer in the 80s and beyond without being able to type.

PC guy wears a suite, has a job, looks reponsible.

Mac guy looks like he has a MySpace page, probly live at home, looks like he hasn't washed his hair or clothes in two weeks.

Yeah, i hate the Mac commercials as much as i hate the Mackies. It reminds me of political attack ads. Instead of saying why YOU'RE good, all you do is attack the other groups. Maybe if they learn from their Ipod marketers they might have more than a 5% market share.

I have a Macbook, but it took me a long time to finally go Mac (i had an ibook for a short-term previously though).

the best thing about osx is with fink you have ports of all commonly and useful unix apps to use in osx itself, not to mention bsd kernel is surely more stable and less prone to attacks than windows

I haven't seen the one you're talking about. The one I'm seeing recently is the one where they tape the webcam to the PC guy's head, and they say Macs come with cameras built-in. So that one, at least, is about how Macs are "better".

Actually, most macs will be sold at a relatively high price because macs have the best resale value in the industry.
