Is there a way to organize IDE ribbons so that they get out of the way/look good?

Pick up a book on Origami. There are some clever folding tricks that can help. Just don't make the bends in the cable too sharp - that can break the little wires.

Do you have a SATA controller on your board? I got these on my optical drives. Works fine.

They work with any IDE device.

They are good, but they can be worse than ribbon cables because they aren't as flexible. People like them because they're aerodynamic but they add nothing to appearance if they are just all over the place.

That's the same reason i gave up on those rounded cables.

Colored electrical tape and split wires. wrap em up and you have your own rounded cables.
