Those crazy New Zealanders....whatever happened to thoughts and prayers?

Lol. That’s a functional government. We won’t ever get there. Too much freedumb.

We do not get that here because of split government.
Even Obama's historic victory in 08 did not yield enough power in the failed American system to achieve the goals people voted for.

Funny how we got past thoughts and prayers after 9/11

Is that supposed to be for or against the idea that thoughts and prayers may be a better policy than an emotional kneejerk policy? I and millions in the middle east wish we stopped at thoughts and prayers after 9-11.

only 2 options exist in the freedumb future... thoughts and prayers and knee jerk reactions.

Funny how we got past thoughts and prayers after 9/11. Wanna bet if a Muslim guns down a christian church we would be well past T&P

Are you crazy? It would just mean we need more guns in church to have more good guys to defend them.

If NZ followed the 911 template, they'd have to invade the country next-door to the one the killer came from. Which would be, er...New Zealand. So it's not surprising they found another option.

That said - are we _sure_ they've banned semi-auto rifles already? Last I heard the PM had declared her intention to accomplish that, but surely there are a lot more steps to get through before it actually happens?

THey havent banned them yet. The parties agreed to a framework to discuss. And I believe the PM is going to deliver the formal proposal within 10 days of the shooting.

Can't the Queen of New Zealand just tell them that's how it is?

The Royals do like their huntin', shootin' and fishin'. So I'm not sure where they'd stand on this...

And anyway, I don't think it really works that way...but there was the infamous 'Canberra Coup'. There are murky elements to the system.

Shame on the US that New Zealand can figure out this issue but the world's most powerful country can't.

Small and nimble, as they say. But that's a misnomer.

Of course we "figured it out", but a sizeable portion of America stands by the 2A and the ability to overcome that in our political system is near impossible. We know how we could act, we do not have the will to act. Although, a smaller nation may be more readily united and deeply affected by such an event. In that case, size would matter.

LOL. Are they saying actions speak louder then words/feels?

It is even funnier that the OP posted this as well.
Why is it funnier? You don`t know anything about me as far as gun control or as far as religion or thougts go....enlighten us or are you all talk no action?

ahhh….the freedom from religion thread...
Your one of those idiots who claims there is no God and as such parents shouldn`t be allowed to bring there children up as they see fit!
You believe that for a parent to teach their child about the Bible and jesus Christ and how to pray that they are somehow abusing their children!
Did I miss anything?
That's what I don`1t get about you idiots most people who say their religious do not want to impose their views or values on you who believe that all religion is false or there is no God!
Yet you see nothing wrong with advocating that their children be taken from them and raised by the government.
That is a real slippery slope and last time I checked religion has had about the same affect on history as those not believing in God or a religion!
Peace!

Truth be told I know many devout Christians and jews who think that when stuff happens as happened in New Zealand people that say my thoughts and prayers are with you is a bunch of BS it is all talk! In stead wouldn`t it be better to say -- How can we help? I can`t find any place in the Bible where Jesus said -- My thoughts and prayers are with you....lolol

We are not going to do anything about gun deaths in our nation, we're just going to let the killings go on and on because we are constitutionally locked when it comes to guns. It will stay this way with the bodies piling up until we have a shooting incident that is so horrendous that a majority of the public demands that things change and votes out the people who refuse to do anything.

Too many people in our nation think our 2nd Amendment is worth far more than the innocent lives lost to it.

Did I miss anything? Lots, but that is to be expected

Yet you see nothing wrong with advocating that their children be taken from them and raised by the government. That is horrible, id never advocate that.
That is a real slippery slope and last time I checked religion has had about the same affect on history as those not believing in God or a religion! True if you are talking about wars. But that just makes it even worse that the peace loving god sides does those things.
Peace!

Because we all know you are deeply religious. So when you post something that shows that human actions are more effective than your "thoughts and prayers" to your god are. That is pretty funny.

My responses in red to your questions.

I don't know much about weapons, but if they ban automatic and semi-auto rifles what's left? Muzzle loaders, bolt action? When will we see a musket massacre?

I don`t know who you come in contact who are religious, but I never try to stereotype people who claim to be religious, just like I don`t sterotype the word -- "Atheist" to include those who do not believe in a God!
Because the bottom line is actions speak louder than words! If your religious or if your an atheist who sits on your ass all day and doesn`t try to address the needs of the world or doesn`t try to change things for the better then you both are wrong!
There are many flat out good people in this world regardless of if they are religious or not!
In fact it was said by Gilbert K. Chesterton -- Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried!
A man who I deeply admire and respect - Trey Gowdy -US Representative for South Carolina's 4th congressional district said the same thing quoting this guy!
Only he said it differently - It is not that Christianity
has not been tried; it just that it is so difficult to live !
Peace!!

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything i've said, but ok.

Don't understand your question. It almost sounds as if you think the increased difficulty of carrying out a massacre is a hitherto unrecognised drawback of this measure! I think you'll find that's supposed to be the purpose of it. It's a feature, not a bug.

I'll believe it when I see it though. Clearly there is resistance to such measures in NZ or they would have done it already. Probably not US level resistance, but I think such proposals have faltered there before.

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything i've said, but ok.

I don't quite get your point either. Not all religious people rely on God to do everything! Most religious traditions, in fact, consider humans have to do some stuff for themselves.

(It's only certain strands of US Christianity that have turned "thoughts and prayers" into a bad joke)

You stated - It is even funnier that the OP posted this as well.
Then you stated -
Because we all know you are deeply religious. So when you post something that shows that human actions are more effective than your "thoughts and prayers" to your god are. That is pretty funny.

Then I responded that you don`t actually know a whole lot about somebody based on what they post! What you do know is that I am religious. But you actually know nothing about how I live what I believe.
So it should not have been funny that I would post what I did!
I actually believe all people use that phrqase- " Our thoughts and prayers are with you!"
That is a huge copout and does nothing positive to help those who need help!

Peace!

I get that. But "thoughts and prayers" is exactly humans doing nothing.
