change to turkey bacon (even though turkey bacon is a sin in my book) and tell the offend religious freaks to fuck off.

i see the vent in the pic so why not just vent it to the roof?

Heathen!

That reminds me, I have to get out the smoker and make more pastrami.

From the article:

The couple took over the take-away in 2007 from the previous owner and replaced the existing extractor fan, which had been there for six years, with a new modern one.

probably alot easier to swap it out then do alot of extra work...

WTF? Doesn't this guy have to at least get everyone in his neighborhood to sign a petition or something? He can just say "I'm offended" and everything gets changed?

You need to mention 'I'm Muslim' as well it appears...

Funny how the council says this was for 'Resident' Amenity and yet he was the only resident that was offended...

His friends and family were also offended but it does not appear they live there since they had to visit him...

The neighbor being 'offended' has been there awhile as well but it appears the government is stepping on egg shells to not offend Muslims at the expense of their own citizens...

The article makes no mention that the Muslims are not citizens. Is this coming from yourself?

Also, it seems that the Muslims are not the ones who complained. It's the friend of the Muslims who wants his friends over.

Mrs Akciecek, who also attended the meeting, said: 'He said he had a daughter with an eating disorder, the Muslim friends, and the bad smell all the time is making his clothes smell.

Mr Webb-Lee said: 'The vent is 12 inches from my front door. Every morning the smell of bacon comes through and makes me physically sick.

Seems like a legitimate complaint.

if they didn't, someone else would have...

Perhaps, but they probably wouldn't have been so brutal and insane. The British Empire took away centuries of development from humanity. It was one of the worst atrocities ever inflicted upon humanity.

Did your ouija board or crystal ball tell you this??? What qualifies you to accurately judge/rank the brutality of past civilizations??? You know, there have been a bunch of atrocities committed by many others since man learned how to use a spear.

This is true. It does seem that the government is responding preferentially, however who really knows? It could be that they would do this in any case.

What is your point? Muslims (whether they were citizens or not) did not like the bacon smell. That is why the local council is making the deli remove the fan.

I don't think the neighbor would have complained if his Muslims friends did not complained to him but that's just a hunch.

Not neighbors. Muslims. Don't be a afraid to use it.
Hah, there goes YOUR shot at a lucrative, government - and Soros-subsidized NPR show.

Ten to one that a majority of the neighborhood prefer the smell of frying bacon to the smell of the offended Muslim. (Even money re: the smell of frying bacon to hot nuns with ice cream.)

Seems like a legitimate complaint.

I'm not so sure. Note this:

The couple took over the take-away in 2007 from the previous owner and replaced the existing extractor fan, which had been there for six years, with a new modern one.

So the fan, and it's location, had been there for many years before this guy started to complain. Accordingly, it looks like either he's only recently moved in or only recently gotten Muslim friends.

Either way, his type of complaints make me angry. If you don't like something, settle elsewhere. Instead I see too often in my area where those who newly arrive suddenly want everyone else to change their longstanding stuff to suit them. BS! If you don't like it the way it is, choose a different place.

Here in my town we recently had something similar. Somebody purchased a vacant lot next to hardware/equip rental store that had been in operation about 40 years. Well, after building condos on the lot the people in the condos decided they didn't like the noise from the hardware/equip rental store and tried to get the city council to make hardware store move. WTH?

Fern

Otherwise those in the UK seem to have lost all common sense. I can't imagine a restaurant being told to remove an exhaust fan; that's against Health Dept rules. You'd be fined for not having a fan.

To be fair, the article does say the neighbor was there when the prior owners were operating the same deli type business but it does not say who was there first.

But in any event, both have been there at least 9 years and he just started complaining 18 months ago which makes this BS...

Even if they replaced the old fan with a new modern one, I dont see how they could have not smelled bacon cooking before...

Perhaps he should tell his sensitive Muslim friend that Muhammed visited him in a dream and said Allah wants him to not be such a pussy?

Feel free to post links to the other side of the story...

Its from the Daily Fail, there likely isnt a story. Most probably the fan filter is faulty and the complainant happens to be Muslim, this would be enough for the 'fail to spaz out.

This sort of thing is quite common in the UK.

I know of an old industrial site, where there were a number of factories, including a small metal works. A property developer wanted to put up some condos - the factory owners complained saying that this was an industrial zoned area, and that it was unsuitable for residential use - due to big-rig traffic, noise, 24/7 shift operation, etc.

The town council said. No big deal. The residents will know that they'll be moving into an industrial zone. They can deal with it.

Condos built. Residents move in. Complaints made to the city council about noise, heavy traffic, early deliveries. City environmental officers rule that this type of behavior is unsuitable for a residential area. Factories are issued restraining orders preventing them from making noise or bringing in heavy traffic except at limited hours. Factories have to close as they are unable to comply with the orders and continue efficient operation.

To think I once fancied the idea of moving there. Glad I never did.

The British Empire actually advanced humanity as a whole. It put civilization in places where there was none. Sure, there were horrible atrocities committed along the way, but you can't say that the British Empire didn't do anything good. There are quite a few places that went to shit after the British left because they couldn't manage the piece of that Empire they had left without killing each other.
