The cafe has been there for 3 years and the first complaints were received 18 months ago...

The owner of the Deli is a Turkish muslim who even cooks the bacon himself...

Local government officials want the deli to remove the fan which is blowing smell outside to in the interest of keeping peace with the citizens (residential amenity)...

edit: the cafe has been there awhile...the fan was replaced 3 years ago...The neighbor being 'offended' has been there awhile as well but it appears the government is stepping on egg shells to not offend Muslims at the expense of their own citizens...

Meh, you could consider it as a public nuisance. No too different than if you had smell of crap coming out of the exhaust, though that's seems like something the offended neighbor should be suing for (rather than mandate).

My highly sarcastic nature prompted a reaction along the lines of an compromise based on an alternative smell to bacon they might find more agreeable: Such burning Jews, or Christians, or Americans, or maybe French. With the added suggestion that it would likely be best that we should make a polite inquiry whether the complaintants are Sunni or Shi'a in order that we could add the appropriate Muslim faction to the list. After all: We should be fair.


But then I decided that approach, albeit temporarily amusing in a demented sort of way, would ultimately be unhelpful and insensitive; and that therefore we should simply ban the production and consumption of all pork products in the United Kingdom.



Either that, or tell the lot of 'em to Piss Off**




**(Presuming, of course, that "Piss Off" is an appropriate British analogue to the American phrase "Take a Flying Fuck At A Rolling Doughnut". If not, then I would request the appropriate Government Agencies embark upon a study whereby we may deliver the best possible insult. Perhaps shoes filled with gasoline and a burning rag? Might be useful to consult our IRA friends for proper delivery techniques...)

I love the smell of bacon cooking over a hot pod of flaming napalm in the morning. It reminds me of.....victory....at the breakfast spread, or Khe Sanh. *sniff* *sniff*

So its not the neighbor who is bothered by the smell but visitors of the neighbors?

So by this logic any where these visitors go, they can force businesses to change because something those businesses do offends them?

I weep for what England has become.
