I'm gonna rent one. Which is better...

the 1999 version, or the one with Steve McQueen

I just saw the recent one, that was a great flick! It isn't a Bond type movie like the previews make it out to be, but it's a good at what it is. Just don't expect a bunch of action.

I'd like to see the original now, to compare the two.

Oh, and the new one has a few nude scenes with Rene Russo. Yummy. :)

BoberFett: a few nude scenes? Heck, she was practically naked for half the movie!! ;) OK, not really, but there was a lot of nudity.

I didn't like the original movie half as well. I saw it when it first came out way back when then again right after the remake.

IMHO, the new one was excellent and well updated for our times (I guess a million dollars was big money back in the '60s) - plus the new robbery was more logical and the tension between the lead actors was much better (can't complain about Russo's body - Oh, yeah Faye Dunaway was in the new one too).

BTW, this is one of the few remakes that way surpassed the original. The other recent remake I liked was "Lifepod" (remake of Hitchcock's "Lifeboat"; but I don't remember the original too well).

EDIT: If you rent them both, see the original first or you will be disappointed.

Never thought Rene was hot, just too big a gal but will check it out.

Apoppin-

Got news for you, a million dollars is a lot of money today if you earn it yourself. :D
Know what you mean.

Actually thebestMAX, a million dollars is far more today if you steal it (tax-free).

However, 100 million dollars for a bit of art is a LOT of money. Inflation has not gone up 100x
(except in Brazil). This movie is just bigger and never loses its Hollywood Magic.

Haven't seen the first one, but enjoyed the second immensely. As has been mentioned a few times, there's quite a bit of Rene Russo.

God, I love that woman.

apoppin:

Just to keep you updated, inflation this year in Brazil is between 8% and 10% per YEAR. Here where I live, consumer goods have seen an actual inflation of about 2% to 4% this year. We haven't seen here sky high inflation numbers since 1994. Not bad at all. :D

I dunno if its her first, but I think she said it'd be her last, unless the nudity was absolutly crucial to the role. I really really really liked the 1999 version of it, almost to the point of going out and buying it. Maybe its because I want to be just like Thomas Crown, and capsize a $20,000 sailboat just because I like to watch it splash...

Is it just me, or did Rene Russo look REEEALLY red?

Anyways, I really enjoyed Thomas Crown Affair. I love moves that have so much sophistication, and who better to display sophisitcation and suaveness, than Pierce Brosnan? He's a good Bond too. Had Sean Connery just been 30-35yrs younger, it'd be one hella great flick. Heck, he could still have done Thomas Crown Affair. Sean Connery is the man.
