well, either you are very well off and money means nothing to you, OR you still live at home with mom & dad paying very little in the way of bills.

generally speaking, people that think like you do....don't often get ahead.

financially secure people who are self made...are generally some of the worst penny pinchers
I have ever met.....they didn't get where they are without knowing how to save a buck.

the difference between being rich and secure and being poor is not the amount of money you have, it is how you view money, I can point to any number of underachievers who hit big in the lottery and ended up right back to square one, poor and without means because their attitude about money did not change.

Crissy also explained that when a coupon reads "1 coupon per purchase" you are not actually limited to using it only once. For example she took 2 boxes of cereal that were buy 1 get 1 free for $3.79 a box. Crissy also had 2, $3 off coupons to go with each of the boxes of cereal. Crissy made over $2 on the cereal.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be allowed to do this.

Oh btw, I hate excessively cheap people. A few summers ago I worked as a cashier at Target, and cheap people with 50 bajillion coupons were the worst. They can go DIAF IMO.

Yeah, I would REALLY hate to be behind this lady checking out. :|
Hell I used the Self Checkout register at Stop& Shop today and had over $20 in savings due to coupons and it took me about 2 extra minutes at most to use them. If that inconveniences some Wanker then fuck them, we can discuss it outside the store.

A couponer who is well organized can often check out faster than the average person who
stands there fumbling for wallet and credit card.

Also, most serious couponers tend to shop during off hours if they're doing big runs, if I'm doing separate transactions and somebody gets behind me. I finish that purchase and step behind them to make my next transaction.

Then you are the exception. My experience is most couponers fumble and bumble for their coupons and take a good 5 minutes more to check out than people paying with their debit card. Looking for your CC takes about 5 seconds at most. Pull wallet out of pocket, pull CC out of wallet. Not that difficult.

My experience as a cashier for 4 years says to me that most people who use coupons know what they are doing - like giving the cashier all the coupons ahead of the transaction so they don't have to bumble around like morons. Of course, there are the handful of idiots that have coupons randomly shoved into their purses and take forever to pull them all out.

And as far as the CC things go, many people could figure out how to follow the little picture on the CC machine to swipe their card. They would try 3 or 4 different ways before getting it right or giving up and handing it to me to swipe. Then there was the whole menu that people would have to go through (select debit or credit - then sign or follow the debit instructions).

I disagree.. I think the real shame is in being wasteful and careless in our consumption. I'm simply living off of the fat of the land.

I'm a careful steward of my family's health and welfare, being prudent in the marketplace
enables us to spend more time together while still enjoying a decent standard of living. I also love knowing that being frugal means there's always plenty, when times of trouble strike I can help out family, friends who are struggling.

More people should follow suit a little. I think they'd be surprised how much money they can save to pay off debts or increase their standar of living by being smarter on the money they spend on food each year.

Coupons can save you quite a bit.
The stores here though will not take coupons that are printed on a home pc.
They all have signs up.
Must have been some sort of counterfeiting going around.

My coupon experience hasn't ever been good, either as a cashier or as a consumer.

The most common problem is poor programming in the computers - they don't recognize the product properly, and thus require a supervisor to override it.
The other issue I had were coupons which needed something entered manually, so instead of just scanning the coupon, it needed to be entered in by hand.

For me, coupons have almost always a hassle to deal with, on either side of the register.

I've easily saved less than $20 a year with coupons of any sort. Too often they're for name-brand things, when the generic equivalent is much cheaper, and of similar quality.

I never bothered having managers override coupons due to faulty computers. I just learned how to punch in coupons manually which made it much easier to go through a stack of coupons. Punching in coupons manually was quick and easy: Mfr Coupon Button - type in the Amount - hit the department name and the coupon was entered.

Not a bad way to save money for a stay at home mom. Probably much less realistic for people with really busy lives, especially if they make more than $34 dollars/hour anyways

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be allowed to do this.

Based on threads I've seen about CVS deals, these people have no qualms about abusing deficiencies in POS systems and the laziness and apathy of cashiers.

That, and who is going to enforce it? How? It'll just make a customer uncomfortable, and they're not going to shop there again (unless the store has massive sell outs or something).

The reason I know this is because I have worked in the food industry, and the last thing a cashier wants to do is confront customers or turn away business.

Because they figured out how to save money and spend it on more luxurious things?

I'm not saying shes the best customer when it comes to that sort of thing, but I think if more people actually paid attention to coupons, there'd be a lot less debt.

But then you'd just offset what you just saved with your coupons with steep hospital bills. That's not a good trade. :p

Saving money is good but at some point it becomes a sickness and obsession. That's not good.

I want to know where you guys shop that grocery stores, CVS, Walgreens, etc. actually have in stock the stuff that coupons cover. Here in my neck of the woods I can't use most coupons, the sale stuff is sold out.

The biggest problem with this is that the items for which there are coupons are often things I wouldn't feed my family.

We don't eat foods with hydrogenated vegetable oil
We don't eat foods with high fructose corn syrup
We prefer foods with whole grains
We prefer locally sourced meats.
We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and buy organic when available.

and in that case you ask for and get a raincheck.. not only for the items at the sale price but also for the register reward or extra care bucks the purchase would generate.

I like rainchecks, they give me more time in some situations to lay hands on some manufacturer's coupons, those can turn a nice freebie into a money maker.

For dinner this evening we had a salad made with fresh greens, all sorts of fresh veggies and really nice feta cheese. For a main dish we had shimp with veggies sauteed in olive oil
and penne pasta. We had a nice loaf of whole grain bread too.

Getting the bulk of our health and beauty items, along with our laundry and cleaning products, free or for mere pennies means more $$$ for lean poultry, fish and fresh produce.

There's tons of soy milk in my fridge, all our cereal is whole grain. We eat well here, aside from the occasional ben and jerry's binge:)

We shop at several different places, fortunately 3 of those places are within two blocks of each other. We patronize a local butcher for all our meat and poultry.

Back when I worked at a grocery store, there was a lady who used to dry off her fruit and vegetables so she wouldn't pay for the water.

When I go to CVS or Walgreen's I have planned in advance what I am buying and what coupons I will be using, I also know exactly how many
register rewards or extra care bucks I;ll be getting back. I arrive at the cash register coupons in hand, neatly sorted and ready to go. I strive to be profession and polite in all my dealings, including my shopping.[/quote]

I'm like geekbabe - I regularly go to CVS (not so much Walgreens since it isn't as close) and I already have in my head what I'm going to get. As I go through the aisles, I see if the item is in stock, and then have my coupons ready. Before I even get up to the cashier, I have my coupons out, my CVS card out, and the ECBs that I will be using that day out. If I need to separate purchases, I let the cashier know in advance in case I was going to use the ECBs to pay for the second purchase to make the item free or very minimal cost.

I also tend to go right before work, and the store is pretty empty at 730 in the morning. I avoid it as much as possible after work.

Same goes with the grocery store. I pull coupons as I'm going through the store to make sure I can use them, but I already know in my mind what coupons I'm going to be using as I'm going through the store.

And coupons are used on more items that just bad for you food. I have shampoo that I got for free a few months ago from CVS, and now I'm nearly out, and I know tomorrow there is a reward on them from CVS again. I do crazy things like plan in advance.

I work full time, my fiance will be working full time starting in October. He thinks my couponing is kinda crazy, but he lets me be because he sees how much money I save per trip. If it's not worth your time, then pay full price. The store is going to make profit off of someone, somewhere.

I bow down to all the coupon greatness. With nothing but time on my hands, I could only hope to reduce what is the largest chunk out of our paychecks, groceries.
