I remember buying a (NForce4 based) DFI SLI mobo from Monarch last fall for ~$130. What happened since then, why the hell did DFIs become (so much) more expensive? Fill me in.

I don't know about the DFI crossfire boards, but other mobo makers have been shipping crossfire mobos since ~last December. You'd think they'd be priced <$100 (maybe a LOT less) by now. Especially since the DFI boards use the "out-dated" ULI 1575 (if not already, soon to become "nVidia") and ATI SB450 (to be replaced by SB600 with AM2 boards) chipsets.

DFI is one of the hottest boards for OC'ing. That alone will cause a price increase. I think you saw the pricing before this information got out to the general public. Recall the Abit K7 RAID Rv 2 boards? Their price was high and stayed high even a year after Abit quit producing them.

An "AnandtechDeal" that's lost it's anchor to the forum's top?!?!?! Better get the crew on-deck before she founders! :)

[Edit: As of the above post, there were half a dozen "mortal" posts above this one.]

Perhaps some of ABIT's "pricing decisions" were partly the reason they were on the verge of going out of business (i.e., ABIT priced their board too high thinking LOTs of customers would pay a significant premium for high OC potential and mobo buyers didn't).

I've got nothing against DFI or peeps who don't mind paying a significant premium (IMO) for an extra <5% of performance (i.e., extreme OC'ing potential versers normal OC'ing potential), but I'm personally not willing to pay the higher price.
