Every time I've seen Doonesbury (at least the Sunday comic) has been with the rest of the comics. It has no place there. It belongs on the editorial page with the rest of the political cartoons.

On Sunday both Doonesbury and Mallard Filmore are with the rest of the cartoons. During the week they are on the editorial page.

At least that's how it is here.

Yes, we must shield harmless cartoons from our precious readers while REAL people are getting killed in gruesome ways almost every day in Iraq. We wouldn't want one of our easily upset readers to cancel their subscription so we must continue to ensure that we control what they see otherwise heavens forbid they might know that in real combat people die and are maimed in horrific ways. Ignorance is bliss afterall.

and dont forget to add ABC airing saving private ryan during prime time....

I think that many have the notion that any "comic strip" must be funny. It doesn't have to be.

Take Family Circus, for instance.

it is funny sometimes, people just don't get it or disagree with the political statements... like how he represents politicians with objects or symbols

You should start there.

I'm a big doonesbury fan (usually its one of the funniest strips in the paper), and I was really sad when I saw that particular strip because I thought BD was dead for sure. But hes out a leg, and that sucks. It will be interesting to read it over the next couple of days. I hope it doesn't get all melodramatic.

Heh, occasionally I glance over Funky Winkerbeen or whatever that strip is called (I read the comics every day with breakfast. ). That strips is nuts. It goes from cancer to death to drunk driving to more cancer to missing limbs . . . the guy who writes that is probably going to kill himself soon.

Indeed. Doonesbury is just a step above Cathy or Mary Worth

I'm not certain, but I suspect that neither Cathy nor Mary Worth were Pulitzer-winning comics.

An ultra-liberal political comic wins a prize??? You are kidding me, no? The next, thing you will be telling me is how Kerry is God's other son and the savior of the Free World

My favorite Doonesbury was back in the 1970s... when Zonker was in the First Annual Gerald Ford Summer Biathlon.

It was a Golf and Tanning competition. 😀

Cheer,

Where are the good old fashioned cartoons meant to pacify the masses instead of pointing out sad truth. I want my government to cover my eyes for me by making papers worried to print such rubbish. Maybe what we have here is a blessed start. Ignorance is strength.

Is it just me or are most comics just not comical anymore?

Doonesbury isn't a comic. It's a written atrocity that has no reason for being on a page with the likes of Peanuts of Calvin and Hobbes because it's the most unfunny crap written every week.

No, Family Circus is the most unfunny crap ever written with Marmaduke a close second.

Who exactly do they think is reading Doonesbury? Kids? Give me a break. Either they fear the Ashcroft, or their editorial-board is full of asshats. Take your pick.

Wow it took 4 posts before Ashcroft was invoked! Freedom of the press implies that those that own the printing press can decide what does and does not go into their newspaper. I doubt the name Ashcroft came up in those discussions.
